London pianist, Grant Graham, had an idea and London Public Library picked it up. The result has been over 250 jazz concerts with 400 plus musicians performing at Central Library over the last 30 years. And it’s all been free to the public thanks to London Public Library, the Musicians Association Music Trust Fund and donors like you.

Today, Jazz for the People draws audiences ranging from 150 to 300 music lovers. There are about six concerts per season and Musical Director & Drummer, Sandy MacKay, makes sure the concerts cover a wide variety of jazz styles – Dixieland, Bebop, Latin, Gypsy and Swing to name a few.

The popular concert series is an important venue for London musicians in their early days. One

local name to have performed with Jazz for the People is Denise Pelley, now a well known professional in music and acting. Other local talent has included singer Sonja Gustafson and pianist Alex Ernewein.

The group at the heart of Jazz for the People has made this program a long running success and has made room on the stage for all ages, styles and experience levels. For musicians Jazz for the People provides other musicians to work with, a venue to perform in and exposure to audiences. For the public it provides good jazz concerts.

In 2009, Imagine campaign funds contributed to the costs of this well loved music series. With your generous support Jazz for the People can continue on into the future.
