A ChildsFreedom
of Expression In this months issue, its all about theFREEDOM TO EXPRESS. We will muse on
the importance of childrens freedom of expression;
how freedom does not always mean free, the benefits of a
childs self expression as well as how to ensure that you as a parent can
provide your offspring with that right. The best and most important kind of
freedom parents can give their child is the freedom to express themselves. It is
this liberty to articulate their emotions, feelings and thoughts that will give them
the confidence and assurance to interact with the world and build relationships
in life.
Whatever those feelings may be, whatever your child might be
experiencing, be it joy or anger, love or hatelet them come into contact with
both the positive and negative sides of their emotions.
Give them a chance to explore and convey what they want, and when
they do this, you have to in turn acknowledge it. But, you have to also be aware
not to spoil your child with too much freedom, so make sure to carefully set
limits and boundaries.
Congratulations to all Brainy

You are your child's first teacher.
Does that statement scare you? It shouldn't. If you feel uncomfortable with the term "teacher,"substitute this with "guide." Most children are more of explorers than students anyway.
Dr. Jean Piaget, upon whose theories many of the foundations of Early Childhood Education have been built,
said: the young child is an explorer, and it is the job of the adults around her to provide the experiences and
materials to stimulate her development. The first several years of a child's life is the time of most rapid brain
development, and the time of greatest learning. These are the years before formal schooling. In addition to
providing for our children's physical and emotional needs, we are their very first, perhaps most important,
teachers. What we do during this time can determine if they wither on the vine or blossom gloriously.
Having said that, it is crucial for us to provide them with a good living and learning environment because they
learn from what they experience; they absorb their surroundings like a sponge. Aside from that, provide them
good sustenance, healthy home life, comfort, care and entertainment and you are also responsible for giving
them their first light into basic academic, intellectual, moral, spiritual, social, behavioural, logical and spatial
developments. It is important that all these areas of development are met.
