Ordination Anniversaries
On June 15, Fr. Billy will celebrate the 34th anniversary of
his Ordination.
Fr. Billy O’Riordan is a native of County Cork, Ireland. He
attended elementary school in Canovee, and secondary
school at De La Salle in Macroom and St. Finbarr’s College,
Farranferris in Cork City. He studied for the priesthood at
Carlow College and then at the College of St. Kieran in
Kilkenny City. Fr. Billy, the oldest of six children, was
ordained to the priesthood in his native parish of Kilmurry,
County Cork on June 15, 1985 by Most Rev. Philip M. Hannan, eleventh archbishop of New Orleans [1965-1989].
Fr. Vincent will celebrate the 1st anniversary of his Ordination on June 2.
He was born and raised in a devout Catholic family in northern Vietnam. In
2010, he came to the US, to learn English and study philosophy and theology
at several seminaries in the Midwest. In 2016, he moved to New Orleans and
was ordained a deacon for the Archdiocese of New Orleans in May 2017. As
he says, “The most blessed day of my life was June 2, 2018, when I was ordained
to the priesthood of Jesus Christ at our historic St. Louis Cathedral.”

“Be the Difference That Makes a
Difference”
Tharuka is an Altar Server at St. Ann and one of our past Altar Server of the Year recipients. His family is from Sri Lanka and he has felt called to raise money to help the victims of the recent attacks on Catholic churches.
These funds will be directed toward supporting children who have lost both parents, school scholarships for children whose breadwinner of the family has been killed, counselling and support through “Seth Sarana” and “Caritas” team of the Church, with the support of qualified psychologists, and supporting the communities in the affected parishes.
Click here to Be the Difference That Makes a Difference - You can help by donating and sharing his Go Fund Me to help get the word out.
Tuesday Adoration Every Tuesday at St. Ann we have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the Chapel following the 8:45 a.m. Mass until 6:30 p.m. We are in need of adorers to commit to an hour with the Lord. Several people have either moved away or had other circumstances that prevent them from continuing in this ministry, so we need some new people to help fill these time slots. The Blessed Sacrament can never be left alone while it is exposed. If you can spend some time with our Lord, you can sign up here: https://stannchurchandshrine.org/adoration-society or contact the parish office.

Missionary Appeal – Diocese of Kumbakonam – Rev. M.S. Selva Raj
The Propagation of the Faith office of our diocese has invited
the diocese of KUMBAKONAM, India to speak to us about
their missionary activities and challenges. Accordingly Rev.
M. S. Selva Raj will be speaking to us during all the Masses
on the weekend of June 15/16. This diocese, started in
1899 in the State of Tamil Nadu, India, has an area of 7823
sq. km and a Catholic population of 213,000 (6% of the
population). It is served by 210 diocesan and 63 religious
priests, 588 nuns and 15 trained lay catechists. The diocese
has certain concrete and meaningful goals for a New Evangelization in the III millennium, like:
1) Establishing 10 more new parishes, each with a new church and rectory. At present, this diocese is 93 parishes and 618 mission-stations. Many of the missions are so large that they have to be made independent parishes with a resident priest. Most Catholics have no vehicle to travel to the main parish church for Sunday Mass. But the people are unable to give financial support, for such pressing pastoral projects.
2) Providing the 126 Catholic schools in the missions with better facilities, tools, children’s Bibles, a projector, catechetical materials in the form of DVDs, pictures, text-books and workbooks to improve the quality of religious and faith formation of Catholic and non-Catholic students in mission- schools.
3) Enabling 485 nuns and 2155 Catholic Teachers in charge of catechetical, educational, medical and social ministries throughout this rural diocese, to educate the children in the Catholic faith and to help the people, particularly the poor, for their integral development.
4) Providing buildings and infra-structure to our mission schools in villages since education is a main means of evangelization while the government pays most of the teachers.
5) Education of more young men in the seminary, since the diocese abounds in vocation, to priesthood and religious life so that some could be sent as missionaries to missions abroad where there is a shortage of priests. Note: Every year, an average of 50 young men and women go out of this diocese to other missions in India and abroad to serve God and His people as missionaries.
6) Education of 1000 very poor or orphan children from poor families every year by providing them with free board & lodge. All the above mission projects are 80% dependent on MCP funds. The diocese is trying to materialize these missionary goals, depending on the availability of funds. The mission and spiritual prospects of Kumbakonam diocese are bright but its needs are many and pressing. 60% of its Catholics are depressingly poor. Therefore, your fervent prayers and generous help are earnestly requested for building the Kingdom of God, in and through the diocese of Kumbakonam, India.
Novena to St. Ann 2019
Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Ann Church & Shrine,
Greetings in the Lord, and in the name of St. Ann,
mother of the Mother of God! School is out and people
are beginning to take some time for vacation and
visiting friends. Well, it’s almost time for St. Ann
Novena 2019 - July 18th until July 26th, the feast day of our Patron Saint.
During Lent, the priest scheduled to do our St. Ann
Novena called to cancel because his Bishop is sending him
to India to speak at a conference. With suggestions from Fr. Jim Marchionda O.P., we called
other priests to lead our 2019 Novena, and after several phone calls, none are available to
do the nine days … With that, Plan C has been put into operation. We will have different
priests from throughout the Archdiocese of New Orleans who have experience in preaching
on various retreats and missions. I told them to bring their best sermon to the table. Hence,
we are going with the theme: Potluck Novena.
Generally, we bring our favorite dish to a potluck. In this case, I encourage you to invite
your family and friends to our Potluck Novena. Food unites us, and in many ways we, the
People of God under the patronage of St. Ann, serve as the ingredients for something greater
- brought together in prayer as God’s children to seek God’s reign anew, to acclaim the faith
of Jesus and share in Christ the feast that frees us.
Start saving the date: July 18th - July 26th for our Potluck Novena. More information later!
Sincerely in Christ,
Rev. Billy O’Riordan
Pastor
