This semester, the following courses were offered: Football in Arabic, volleyball in English, sports for the disabled in French and track and field in Spanish. The main teachers were Robert Klauß (football), Ronald Hampe (volleyball), Simone Zimmermann (sports for the disabled) as well as Dr. Peter Löffler (track and field). The course period ends on 29 July with an official closing ceremony and awarding of the certificates. As in the previous semester, the ceremony will be broadcasted live from 1:30 p.m. (CET). They also visited Dresden where the women’s Play Off Finals took place at Dresden’s Margon Arena. Furthermore, participants had several opportunities to improve their skills as referees, for example at the Federal Youth Games in Saxony. The syllabus of the course ITK Sports for the Disabled included excursions to the International German Athletics Championship in Berlin as well as to the Bernd-Best Tournament in Cologne, the world’s largest event in wheelchair rugby. Important excursions of the course ITK Track and Field were the International Throwers Meeting in Halle and the German Athletics Championships in Nürnberg. The course ITK Football made use of many work shadowing opportunities during training sessions of different teams of the club RB Leipzig. The ITK on excursion to the German capital Berlin

Leipzig’s sports mayor Heiko Rosenthal welcomed the ITK participants during a reception at the New Town Hall.

Despite high temperatures, participants competed in football, beach volleyball and speed shot at the ITK Sports Festival.

The photography exhibition “FACES of ITK“ was presented at the branch of Deutsche Bank in Leipzig. In August, the exhibition will be moved to Berlin: The Foreign Office will display the photos on the occasion of its ‘open day’.

Publications about the International Coaching Course

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the ITK, edition 2 (2014) of the LSB publication “Leipziger Sportwissenschaftliche Beiträge“ (Articles on Sports Science from Leipzig) was dedicated to current aspects and issues of international coaching education.Information on the content and on ordering as well as a summary of all articles is available at http://home.uni-leipzig.de/lsb/lsbhefte/2014/2014-heft-2-55-3/

From 29 June to 8 July, the Sports Science Faculty of Leipzig University organized an Alumni Camp in Armenia. 20 international alumni – all former participants of the International Coaching Course – from 5 Central Asian countries (Armenia, Georgia, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan) seized the opportunity of this further qualification measure. The camp was promoted by the Foreign Office of Germany, the German embassy in Yerevan, the National Olympic Committee and the Sports Ministry of Armenia. The aim of the project was to increase the participants’ theoretical and practical competences in the field of sports management.

The International Coaching Course - ITK - funded by the Federal Foreign Ministry based on a resolution of the German Federal Parliament.

Calling on all ITK Alumni: Olympia 2016 We ask all ITK alumni to let us know should they be present at the Olympic or Paralympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro for professional reasons, including the date of their stay and their function if possible. LicensingStarting with the present semester, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) grants Level I licenses to successful alumni of the International Coaching Course. Additionally, alumni with excellent grades will be provided with the opportunity to obtain IAAF Level II certifications. IAAF is now the second international association that grants licenses to ITK alumni, after the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) being the first organisation taking this important step.

Ambassador Activities and Networking In recent months, the ITK ambassadors worked actively towards reinforcing the alumni network and were committed to their activity as multipliers of the ITK. They initiated meetings with alumni of their home country and with representatives from politics, sports federations, NOC and educational institutions. During the ITK Ambassador Meeting in Morocco (25th of September to 4th of October 2015), current challenges of their work as well as short- and long-term objectives were addressed.We report about their activities on a regular basis on Facebook. ProspectsThe 2nd International Coaching Course 2015 starts on 31 August. The following specializations will be offered: Conditioning Coach in Arabic, judo in English, swimming in French and handball in Spanish. From 7 to 14 August, the first ITK Summer School takes place in San José (Costa Rica) in cooperation with the Universidad Autónoma de Centro América (UACA).

An Alumni Camp in Uganda for track and field coaches is scheduled for late November 2015. It is organised in cooperation with the Coaching School of the German Athletics Federation (DLV) in Mainz.
