Success for Georgie in NFU Agricultural Student of the Year CompetitionThe fourth year of the NFU Agricultural Student of the Year Competition at Kingston Maurward College resulted in a win for Georgie Cossins, with runners up Josh Dory and Hilary Hansford.

The award was initiated in 2011 by the NFU in conjunction with C&O Tractors and New Holland, who wanted to support a credible accreditation that would aid young farmers in their future careers.

The sixteen participating students, all studying the second year Level 3 Extended National Diploma in Agriculture, competed against one another in a tense day of tasks. These included livestock, machinery and estate skills tasks, a 50-question theory test, followed by an interview with a panel of judges including the NFU’s Rupert Rees and C&O Tractors’ Matthew Holland and Dave Stickland.

Georgie, from Blandford Forum, said “It was a complete shock to win! I think the reason was because of the extracurricular things I’ve done during the course. I’m so pleased; it feels like this award is in recognition of all my hard work.”

As well as achieving consistently high grades during her course, incredibly Georgie also found time to compete in the RABDF and Farmplanner competitions, write a regular agricultural column for the Dorset Echo, and still work at the family’s mixed farm.

Kuhn Centre for ProgressOur sales team are just back from a whirlwind training trip to the Kuhn Centre for Progress in Alsace, France. The brand new centre houses the full range of Kuhn’s farm machinery so the team got very comprehensive training on the complete range.
