PASADENA COVENANT CHURCH July 2014 EVERYONE Camp Out An Update on the Courtyard On June 1st, the congregation voted to go ahead with the Courtyard Renovation Project. It is estimated to cost around $100,000 and the Trustees have asked that the congregation support 30% of this with offerings over and above their general support for the church. The remaining 70% will be paid out of our investment funds. The congregation approved this on a 62 to 9 vote. We are thrilled to report that we have received a $6,300 gift from Club 21 who does ministry out of our campus, and in addition we have received an anonymous gift of $6,333. Thank you so much to both of these investors in Pasadena Covenant. The Trustees will soon be making a presentation to help us get on board with this project, but in the meantime you may increase our momentum by contributing to Pasadena Covenant and memo the check as “Courtyard”. The architect is currently making drawings that we can submit to the city and when they are finished we should be able to get an over-the-counter approval to proceed.

EVERYONE Camp Out

An Update on the Courtyard

On June 1st, the congregation voted to go ahead with the Courtyard

Renovation Project. It is estimated to cost around $100,000 and the

Trustees have asked that the congregation support 30% of this with

offerings over and above their general support for the church. The

remaining 70% will be paid out of our investment funds. The

congregation approved this on a 62 to 9 vote.

We are thrilled to report that we have received a $6,300 gift from Club 21 who does ministry out of our

campus, and in addition we have received an anonymous gift of $6,333. Thank you so much to both of these

investors in Pasadena Covenant.

The Trustees will soon be making a presentation to help us get on board with this project, but in the

meantime you may increase our momentum by contributing to Pasadena Covenant and memo the check as

“Courtyard”. The architect is currently making drawings that we can submit to the city and when they are

finished we should be able to get an over-the-counter approval to proceed.

PasCov Kids: Summer Sunday School • June 29-Sept. 3

Theme: Seeking God in a Beautiful & Broken World This summer PCC Kids’ Min. will be exploring God’s creation in lots of fun ways! We’ll have special programs

for preschoolers (2-5 years combined) and gradeschoolers (1st-5th gr in fall).

June 29-Aug 3, preschool: Godly Play Parables

During the 10:30 hour, preschoolers will continue their wonderful Godly Play story time. This summer will

feature Jesus’ parables, drawing lessons from nature to learn about God’s Kingdom.

June 29-Aug 3, Gradeschool: Magician’s Nephew

Gradeschoolers at 10:30 will read C.S. Lewis’ wonderful Christian allegory The Magician’s Nephew. As they read

about the creation of Narnia, kids will also learn about the creation of our own world through both Bible study

and fun nature crafts. Families may want to purchase their own copies of the book (available for under $8) to

read along.

August 10-Sept. 7, 10:30am preschool & gradeschool: The Lab: Mad About Jesus!

Brittany Burian will lead us in a special program using exciting and FUN science experiments to learn amazing

things abut God and His wonderful creation. Gradeschoolers will check into their usual upstairs classroom for

Bible study and prep, then join the preschoolers to serve as Doc Brittany’s lab assistants. Don’t miss out!

Following up at home:

Continuing the conversation at home is essential! No matter how much fun we have on Sunday mornings, it is

only a complement to the far more impactful conversations you have with you have with your kids around the

kitchen table or at their bedside. Several parents took up our challenge last fall to begin a daily ritual of asking/

praying/journaling with their kids about “where did you see God today?” This has turned into a treasured

family ritual that has yielded rich returns! If you haven’t already begun this practice, it’s not too late. Simply

take a few minutes at dinner or bedtime to ask “where did I see God active today?” and allow each family

member to share a few moments. If you take a few minutes to journal your response, it provides a great

reminder that you can look back over at the end of the week.

To enable Pasadena Covenant Church to Seek and Share God with people of limited access to the Gospel, multiplying disciples through ministries of pioneer church planting, mobilization, and member care; and to facilitate the spiritual growth of members of PCC through

engagement with God’s mission.

Pasadena Covenant Church Cross-Cultural Ministry Fund

We consider it an honor to partner with you and your work for the Lord Jesus around the world. We thank God for you. The Cross-Cultural Ministry Team has two funding sources that we manage. The first is the annual church budget. We use those funds to provide regular missionary support to twenty individuals.

The second fund was established when former members of the church left estate gifts. That money was invested and the Cross-Cultural Ministry Team created a spending plan. We use the second fund for special projects and we invite our ministry partners to apply. The application deadline for this year’s grant is Tuesday, July 15, 2014. As a church, our goal is to seek and share Christ to a broken and beautiful world. We have 5 Key Principles that we use to evaluate the merits of projects and cross cultural approaches:

Key Principles

1. We value cross cultural ministers that exhibit a passion for Jesus and the heart of a learner (Phil 3:3-20, Mt 5:3)

2. We emphasize the importance of using forms and language that is meaningful to the target culture (Acts 17:16-34)

3. We encourage followers of Jesus to retain their identity as members of the pre-existent socio-religious community (Mk 5:1-20f)

4. We strive to demonstrate an attitude of genuine partnership with national Christians on the diverse fields where God has called us to minister.

5. We support cross cultural field workers who will assist Pasadena Covenant members to grow in vision, understanding, and engagement with God’s mission.

Furthermore, you should know that the purpose of our Cross-Cultural Ministry Team (and any funding) is noted in the header at the top of the page.

Gifts are in the range of $500-$1500.

If you have applied for these funds in the past, you will notice that this year’s application is more comprehensive. A number of new individuals have joined the Cross-Cultural Ministry Team. Most have little knowledge of our current missionaries. By asking you to submit a one page introduction and complete the seven question application, you will give members of the team valuable information to help us make a wise decision. Your completed application should be two pages or less.

Application for Funds

If you are interested in receiving a grant for the 2014 year, please email us your one page biographical sheet and your completed project application by Tuesday, July 15, 2014.

Send your answers to Paul Fletcher ([email protected]). We hope to notify recipients of grant awards by September 1, 2014.
