Amazing achievement for Sammy this month, who moved into Swan Court, Precious Homes’ new residential service in Birmingham. Sammy recently enjoyed a meal out for his birthday with his favourite support workers. This was his first community activity in almost two years!

Out and About at Precious Homes

Tom who lives at Oster House recently attended an interview for his local Morrisons supermarket. Tom did amazingly and was oered the job! He is incredibly proud of himself and so are the whole team at Oster House. What an achievement!

Danny moved into Swan Court in Birmingham in June 2017. Initially, Danny did not want to take part in any community activities or access the local area. Now he has settled in with his own support team having built trusting relationships and confidence. He now engages with and enjoys a range of activities. Here he is enjoying a recent shopping trip with one of his team members!

Luke Miller went to a lodge cabin for a five day mini break. He was supported by two team members from Precious Homes’ Oster House. He enjoyed some amazing days out, had some fantastic experiences and what brilliant weather for this time of year!

Five individuals from Ulysses House in Birmingham had an amazing time on their holiday in to Cornwall. Supported by their team in Birmingham the group trip was a fantastic experience. They are now busy planning their next holiday!

Nicky Turner poses here with his latest mosaic artwork which he calls ‘Backwards’. He is very proud of his work and will be exhibiting at the Hackney mosaic studio exhibitions. This is open to the community to showcase his talent and work locally.

Chandos Road receives Headway Accreditation

We are delighted that Chandos Road has joined an elite group of only five other providers in London who have achieved Headway Accreditation. This provides an accredited sign of quality that is driven from the perspective of people living with a brain injury. This encompasses evidence based on good practice, sound governance and an outcome focused approach to support.

Simon Griiths, Director of Operations at Precious Homes said: “The value of this accreditation is much more than a quality mark. It demonstrates Precious Homes’ commitment to continuous service improvement and ensuring our team members, working co-productively with people who have an Acquired Brain Injury, are trained and skilled to support them on their rehabilitation journey.”

Chandos Road is an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) specific service in East London which supports 6 people who are taking that next step of their rehabilitation following an Acquired Brain Injury. The service aims to reduce risk, maximise independence and, where possible, support individuals to fully recover.

Service Manager, Ovais Ilyas, explains: “Our role is to build upon current skills and to support in a responsive way to each person’s increasing independence in line with their individual need. This can involve self-managing their personal care, increasing daily living skills, managing their money, going to appointments or accessing the community – all with the aim for them to be as independent as possible in these areas over time.” Simon Griiths adds: “I am very proud of the team for gaining Headway Accreditation. This not only provides individuals and their families with the knowledge that they are being supported by a team with the right training and expertise to deliver high quality support, but demonstrates the excellent work of the team in developing eective support planning and delivering great outcomes for each person.”

To find out more about Headway Accreditation go to: www.headway.org.uk

We are delighted to announce that Chandos Road, Precious Homes’ Specialist Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) service in London has received Headway Accreditation! This accreditation recognises commitment to continuous excellence in supporting individuals with acquired brain injuries.

Paul’s Pathway

Chadwin Road is one of Precious Homes’ Supported Living Service in the heart of Plaistow, Newham providing individualised and proactive support for up to three adults. Individuals are supported to build skills and become as independent as possible both at home and in the community as well as to maintain their own tenancy. Paul moved into one of the flats within the service in summer 2017 and has never looked back. Stephanie Okoghenu, Paul’s Key Worker and the service’s Person-Centred Champion says: “Paul joined us from a previous placement which had sadly broken down. We supported his transition into his own flat and worked with Paul and his mum to identify his key needs, with a structured plan in place to empower Paul to achieve his outcomes.” Some of the key focuses initially were in supporting Paul to manage his personal care and hygiene, to eat healthily and to start to plan for activities. Stephanie explains: “Paul struggled with motivation and with engagement in any activities. Instead, he choose to stay in his flat and didn’t access the community. Paul was overweight which was aecting his mobility, health and overall wellbeing.”

The Chadwin Road team in Newham are delighted to share Paul’s story. Paul moved into his own flat in Chadwin Road in June 2017 aer sadly experiencing a placement breakdown. Now, with the right support and motivation from his team at the Supported Living Plus service in Newham, he has trans-formed his life. Here his Key Worker Stephanie tells us all about his successful move, including some fantastic feedback from Paul’s mother.

The team worked with Paul to put an action plan in place and to set SMART goals. Through the motivation and consistency of his support team, Paul started to turn his life around.

“Paul is unrecognisable from when he first moved to Chadwin Road.” explains Stephanie. “He is now walking, using public transport, accessing the community, learning independent living skills such as preparing his own breakfast, has lost weight, enjoys going out with friends and has started a college placement!” Building upon new skills and motivation gradually and always with Paul setting the pace was the key to his goals being achieved. This, combined with a consistent team and approach to motivate and encourage Paul through positive risk management, has finally empowered Paul with choice, control and the confidence to enjoy his life. Paul’s Mum is delighted with his progress. Mrs Ingram said: “I have visited Paul a few times now and he really is going from strength to strength and regaining all the skills he had so sadly lost. He is chatty and sociable when I phone or visit and feedback tells me that he interacts very well with the other individuals. I am delighted with Chadwin Road and with the positive relationships built between Paul and his support team. You can see just how happy Paul is from the selfie his brother took a couple of weeks ago!” Mrs Ingram adds: “I am grateful to your team and their sterling eort in supporting Paul in such a positive manner.” Paul is now working with sta to achieve his next big goal – a holiday abroad next summer.

Fantastic feedback and outstanding achievements for Paul, with plenty more to come!

Christmas Jumper Day 2017

Friday 15th December 2017 is National Christmas Jumper Day and as always, our Precious Homes team members will be donning their favourite festive knitwear in a bid to raise some well needed cash for Save The Children.

Everyone who donates £2 to take part in this year’s silliness will be doing some serious good around the world. Your support can protect children from easily preventable diseases like malaria, diarrhoea and pneumonia, or bring essential healthcare, education and food to millions of children who are missing out on these basics.

Want to get involved? Taking part is easy, just sign up to Christmas jumper day at www.christmasjumperday.org Get everyone together on the 15th December, stick on your favourite knits or accessories and donate to save children’s lives. Everyone can join in!

We want to see your photos! On 15th December, please send photos of you, your teams and the people you support in your festive jumpers to help us raise awareness for this fantastic cause.
