SUMMER SOCIAL EVENT
Our Summer Social on 11th June took the form of
a leisurely 2 hour cruise along the River Trent
while enjoying afternoon tea complete with
enormous
cream cakes.
Before boarding
the Trent Lady
in Nottingham
many of us took
a short walk
from nearby
Wollaton Hall
with its deer
park and attractive grounds. The event was a
great success and 30 members and friends
attended. Thanks are due to Linda for
researching and booking the cruise, to David for
leading the walk and to Gwen for selling the
tickets.
BEER & SKITTLES EVENING WITH A MEAL
We are returning once again to
The Rose Inn at Baxterley on
Friday 10th November.
Entrance is £13 per person which
includes a choice of three one
course meals.
Tickets can be obtained from Gwen
Franklin (07855 695324).

enjoy a cream tea.
Saturday: We will follow the South West Coast
Path to the active

Sunday: In the
morning we will
visit the famous village of Widecombe in the

SOCIAL EVENING & AGM
All members are invited to attend this event in the

John Whitehead, who will entertain us with a
highly recommended talk on Ernest Shackleton,
polar explorer and leader of the Imperial Trans-
Antarctic Expedition. The evening will conclude
with a short AGM when you will have an
opportunity to give your views about the club and
to elect members of the committee.

December. The cost of the

There will be an optional walk

WINTER 2017-18 WALKS PROGRAMME
The next walks programme, covering the period
October 2017 to March 2018, will be distributed
shortly. In addition to our regular Sunday walks,
our health walks of 2 to 3 miles in the local area
are held on the third Tuesday of each month.
Also, on the last Tuesday of November, January
and March there will be a walk of about 5 miles
ending with a pub lunch.
We all owe a debt of gratitude to those members
who have volunteered to lead walks and to Geoff
Marlow for co-ordinating the walks programme.
A MUSICAL CROSSWORD For this edition Duncan has produced a crossword with a musical theme – ideal for baby boomers.
