Students Shine At Sci://Tech Science Fair Woodlands Christian students in the 7th and 8th grades recently competed in the private school division of the Sci://Tech Science Fair sponsored by EfTA (Education for Tomorrow Alliance). The

county-wide competition included a total of 120 projects with Woodlands Christian bringing home 24 of the 53 medals awarded! Students have been working on their projects since August preparing full research papers and project display boards. In addition, students gave oral presentations about their projects to the judges at the competition. See below for a

complete list of Sci://Tech winners. Not to be outdone, 6th grade students have been working on science projects of a different sort

developing science blogs throughout the school year. Students blogged on the progress of various experiments by incorporating photographs, graphs and widgets to demonstrate the scientific methods used in their experiments. The blogs were entered in the Sci:Blogz competition, a county-wide event open to public and private schools, also sponsored by EfTA. Jordan Andrus, Tommy Freet and Erica Owens were selected as finalists and will proceed to the next round of competition on February 2, 2013. A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Krisha Goodney who not only coordinated the 6th grade blog projects but was the chairperson for the entire Sci://Tech private school division competition. Mrs. Goodney spent many hours outside of class organizing, emailing, categorizing projects, developing judging materials, tallying results, and overseeing the awards ceremonies. We applaud her efforts in this worthwhile endeavor which so greatly benefits our students.

Woodlands Christian Speech Meet

On Tuesday, forty-nine (49) students participated in the 11th annual Woodlands Christian Lower School Speech Meet. Students recited Bible verses and stories, poetry, fables, and patriotic pieces. It takes courage and determination to stand before a group and give an oral presentation! Way to go participants! Geology Rocks On!

Students in Mrs. Pam Masau’s geology classes recently enjoyed a weekend trip to the Hill Country in central Texas. The students camped at Texas state parks including Buescher in Smithville and Inks Lake in Burnet. The group toured the main cave at Natural Bridge Caverns in San Antonio. While there, they took advantage of the Canopy Challenge ropes course. Another outing included a hike to the summit of Enchanted Rock just north of Fredericksburg. While on the hike, students were on the lookout for certain rocks and took detailed notes of designated points of interest. Using only visual topography, students plotted their estimated locations on a topographic map of the area. They later used GPS coordinates for their locations to

determine how close their estimates were to their actual locations. Many thanks to Mrs. Amy Rowe, Mr. Troy Holiman and Mr. Morgan Masau for chaperoning, cooking and helping in every way! Mrs. Rowe’s breakfast tacos and grilled burgers were a hit! Mr. Holiman’s devotion on The One Thing... was a great prelude to our hike of Enchanted Rock. Thank you to the Newcomb family for providing snacks and drinks. A huge THANK YOU goes out to Mr. Ron Mittelstaedt and Waste Connections, Inc. for sponsoring the charter bus. The trip was so much sweeter with the comfy ride!

Warrior Basketball Rolls On

In what has become a Warrior track tradition, a group of varsity track athletes travelled to the Pine Cove Outback camp for a weekend of service. While a men's group of 110 was on retreat, we served their food, washed hundreds(!!) of dishes, and cleaned up the camp. This is the team’s fourth time to serve in this manner and the Pine Cove staff were very complimentary of the attitude of service from our group. Many of the men on retreat asked if we were there for a fund-raiser to which we smiled and replied, "No, we are here on a volunteer basis to serve you!" They were blown away. When they weren’t serving others, team members took some time to do what they do best - run!

Boys’ Varsity - The Warriors continue to slice through their district schedule chalking up victories over Brazos Christian (60-37), Rosehill Christian (50-35), and Faith West (73-21). The team had a break from district action on Tuesday, January 29 with a game against SATCH. In an exciting contest against a solid opponent, the team came away with a 65-56 win. The Warriors get back to district play on Friday, February 1 when they travel to Cypress Christian. On Tuesday, February 5 the Warriors welcome St. Thomas Episcopal for a home game. Tip off time for both games is 7:30 p.m.

Girls’ Varsity - The girls‘ team scored an impressive 52-45 win over Brazos Christian on

January 18. District play continues with an away game against Cypress Christian on Friday. The team returns home on Tuesday, February 5 to face St. Thomas Episcopal. Tip off time for both games is 6:00 p.m. Boys’ Junior Varsity - The boys’ junior varsity team continues their district schedule with two road games, the first will be against Cypress Christian on Friday, February 1 followed by St. Joseph on February 8. Tip off time is 4:30 p.m. Come out and support your Warrior basketball teams!

The Woodlands Christian Academy football program was named as a finalist for the Sportsmanship Award presented by the Houston Touchdown Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Of the ten private schools from the greater Houston area that were nominated, Woodlands Christian placed second. Finalists were selected by referees who called the high school football games. Points were awarded based on the actions of the coaches, the players, the fans, number of serious penalties called, and respect for the American flag during the national anthem. Each head coach was asked to bring a senior player who exemplified outstanding sportsmanship. The senior player chosen to represent Woodlands Christian was Cray Noah.
