New Principal We are pleased to announce that Ms. Safija Bristina has been appointed as the new Principal of Cobar High School. It is anticipated that Ms. Bristina will start at the beginning of Term 4 and we look forward to her joining our great learning institution. Term 2 Awards Ceremony It was again fantastic to see so many parents attend this ceremony to celebrate the achievements of our students. Acknowledgement of one’s performance is an important component in our students’ development and its impact cannot be underestimated. In line with our expected behaviours of Respect, Excellence and Safety, it remains essential that our students are not only encouraged to strive for personal excellence but to also learn how to receive public recognition in an appropriate manner. Well done again to all those students who received awards. To those who didn’t, the challenge is still there! Parent & Teacher Evening Many thanks to the parents and staff who attended our interviews yesterday afternoon. These events provide a great opportunity for parents to discuss their child's educational progress. For those who were unable to attend please do not hesitate to make an appointment to see our teachers. Also any feedback (positive or negative) on this evening will be appreciated.

Community Support Huw Rabone from CSA Glencore spoke with our Geography students recently about the environmental impact of tailings dams and his position of Environmental Officer at the mine. Cobar High would like to take this opportunity to thank local business and industries for their continued support of our school.

MOORAMBILLA VOICES CHIOR

On the 4th July CHS students Blake

Toomey, Jakob Brown, John-Wayne

Josephson and Laine Ellicott from

Moorambilla MAXed OUT and Katelyn

Martin from Moorambilla Voices Choir

travelled to Sydney with 51 other students

on their first 2016 Moorambilla Voices

combined ensemble tour to celebrate

NAIDOC week.

On the first day Blake, Jacob, John-Wayne

and Laine along with the rest of the MAXed

OUT students spent 2 hours at the Taikoz

HQ in Ultimo receiving expert tuition on

Taikoz. On the second day all the students

headed to Manly Public School for a

combined ensemble choir session then to

Manly Oval for the rest of the day for

Taiko.

On day 3 the students went to Parliament House where they rehearsed with the World Orchestra and Song

Company in the Macquarie Room. After this they were taken to Government House. MAXed OUT sang in the

ballroom to invited guests alongside the Moorambilla Voices Choir, the World Orchestra (with the Song

Company on the balcony above). By all accounts it sounded truly

spectacular. The applause at the end went on for a while, they’d

made quite an impression! Following this, MAXed OUT did a

strong Taikoz performance on the fountain path outside the

Governor’s House, while guests watched from the verandah.

There was a photo shoot afterwards with Governor Hurley and

Mrs Hurley. Towards the end of their visit Mrs Hurley (who loves

to sing) invited Jakob Brown to play their piano.

Day 4 and their next performance was at Parliament House where,

after being introduced by the Assistant Minister for Education,

they performed in front of The Honourable Lesley Williams, MP,

Minister for Early Childhood Education and Minister for

Aboriginal Affairs. They also met Mark Ferguson from Channel 7

News who did a news story on the Moorambilla Voices project.

This was followed by a performance at St Matthews Church on the

Corso, showing off their lanterns to the public.

MAXed OUT will again be on tour in Sydney during August

performing at the National Association of Women in Construction

NSW Awards for Excellence in the Star Event Centre at Star City

Sydney.
