QQAS ‘painted’ a wonderful picture of 50 years of its history with many founding members

and early committee persons reliving our history and the successes at the 50th Exhibition

Celebration. The years have seen the development of this community group and how it has grown into

one of the NSW’s most vibrant Art Societies with an Art Competition/Exhibition every month featuring

an average 120 works. The strength of the Society is of course its members but today’s

artists are full of gratitude to the founding members who lit the original fire.

QQAS introduced another innovation at the 50th Anniversary Exhibition presen-

tation when successful members accepted their award.

As their winning painting was screened on the wall the

artist told the huge audience ‘all’ about their painting.

I I am particularly proud to be part of a wonderful Queanbeyan community group

that has grown from such humble beginnings to become one of the most exciting Art Societies in the

State of NSW. The Society ‘founding members’ sowed founding members’ sowed the seeds that every committee followed the farrows

that has seen our Art Society blossom into what it has become today. It was wonderful to see so many early members

return for the special 50th Anniversary Celebration. They took pride in talking about the early days and delighted to see

what our Art Society has become. I am pleased the way our present QAS Committee worked feverishly to pull the

QAS 50th Anniversary Celebration together, well done to all. Members are reminded that the 2018 QAS Calendar

is being ‘pulled’ together so if members want to make sure

they have a painting in it please contact me or send

me an image of the painting you want to go

TTHE QAS Committee, at its recent meeting ,named the members who are invited to be the

named artists, firstly naming the final six and two of those are recommended for next year’s

Guest Artist list. This is the 10th year the QAS will have run the Charity Art Show and every

MMEMBERS are pleased with the monthly Art Compe-

tition/Exhibition the committee is pleased with the

members support on average 120 works each month

and 17 awards. To compare this with a large Art

Centre offering once a year $3,000 plus in a major prize

not getting 50 works entered proves we must be on the

right track. QAS dose not have a large sponsorship

base and we have to manage the running of the Gallery

and the committee must tread lightly. If we can

increase our sponsorship we can enlarge awards for our

members and keep the house (gallery) in order.

beauty. John’s workshops are for those who have mastered

the basics and wish to move onto new levels. The weekend

covers tone, temp, colour mixing, composition, atmosphere,

reflected light, reflections and other subtleties of the
