Newsletter Principal’s Report 23rd November 2017
2018 School Update Planning is well on the way for 2018. Teachers and staff are currently putting together grades for next year. At the moment the structure for 2018 will be the same as 2017 with 10 classes. Teachers will be placed in positions as soon all staffing movements are known. If you know that your child will not be returning to Ardeer South in 2018 please inform the school as soon as possible. Join a Club. Many young people are able to grow and develop in both maturity and skills by joining a club or organisation that meets regularly outside the home. They are provided with structure, community and opportunities that aren’t available within normal family life. Choose one that fits your child’s age as well as their interests from the wide range that are available. One example would be Scouting, also known as the Scout Movement, is a worldwide youth movement with the stated aim of supporting young people in their physical, mental and spiritual development, so that they may play constructive roles in society. Groups are available all over the world and are gender based. The movement employs a program of informal education with an emphasis on practical outdoor activities, including camping, woodcraft, aquatics, hiking, backpacking, and sports. The scouts have a uniform that aims to remove any social differences between the students that attend. Most sports have a group that your child can join to both improve their skills as well as socializing with like-minded people. A number offer opportunity over many years – scouting offers programs from 7 years old up to 25 years old. This longevity demonstrates commitment and determination. Many of them have a very low cost of entry and will provide stimulating activities that will enrich your child’s life and give them leadership opportunities. International Day 14th November 2017
Bollywood dancing and Japanese Taiko drumming were just two of the Acts that were performed on
Tuesday 14th November to mark International Day at Ardeer South Primary School. The day is celebrated
every second year and it is our way of acknowledging the positive contribution made by the students
and their families from over 30 different cultural backgrounds. The event involved all students and staff
and it was fantastic to see everyone dressed up in their national costumes. Parents were also invited to
come along and watch their children perform and see how talented the students are at our wonderful
school.
This year’s International day gave the children a sample of the sights, sounds and tastes of the world and
included cultural performances by professional artists and groups of students themselves. We were
lucky enough to witness dances from Tonga, Samoa, Ethiopia, England, India, Italy and more. There were
many highlights of the day but the group of senior school boys who performed the Haka certainly
demanded everyone’s attention! There was a special luncheon held where the children had the
opportunity to taste food prepared by families and then talk about aspects of their culture. It was
valuable for the students to learn facts about other cultures that they would otherwise have no
exposure to.
The day represented a celebration of peace and harmony between all cultures. Our diverse school
community helped to make it a very special day. We think it was the best one yet!
