FROM THE MAYOR’S DESKCongratulations to the organisers of some great events across our Region recently.

The NRL game at Glen Willow in May was a roaring success and will pave the way for future games and major events.

The Henry Lawson Festival in Gulgong showed visitors how well we celebrate history and culture and what an integral role each town plays in the local tourism industry.

Thank you to those who made submissions in response to Council’s draft Operational and Delivery Plan. I was very pleased to see a range of submissions and am always encouraged to know that residents are

taking an interest in the processes we undertake at Council.

It is very important to me that as many people are involved in our planning as possible. To properly represent the Region, my fellow Councillors and I need your input.

FAMILY DAY CARE IN THE MID-WESTERN REGION...

NEED FOR EDUCATORSPROVES POPULARITY

CHILD CARE SOLUTION AND WORK FROM HOME

Six Council roads employees have completed a

Certificate III in Civil Construction. The 2 year course

was undertaken in 18 months with outstanding results.

Sally Mullinger, Business Manager Works says that the

improved skill base will result in Council staff being

able to provide even better quality work on roads

around the Region.

“Our employees now have increased knowledge and

experience in different facets of civil construction

including health and safety, work planning, survey

and plan reading, road construction, drainage and

concrete works.”

“Improving the skills of our team provides greater

flexibility for Council to deliver on our Community

Plan’s commitments,” Miss Mullinger said.

Family Day Care is a child care service provided from a Registered Educator’s home, for children aged 0-12.

Educators look after up

children too.

to be aware of changes to the law in NSW to

swimming pools must register their details on

the NSW Government swimming pool register.

“From 29 October this year, we will inspect

private pools and from April next year

“This is an important step in improving

safety around home swimming pools and

encouraging pool owners to make sure they are

doing everything possible to avoid accidental

way to assess and fix possible hazards”.

Cobbora Holding Company and Mid-Western Regional Council will soon start work to upgrade Spring Ridge/ Laheys Creek Road near Gulgong.

The upgraded sections will be approximately 15km long, from the Local Government Area boundary to the intersection with the Castlereagh Highway including that intersection.

A road safety audit and pavement investigation will provide direction for the works. The upgrade is likely to involve a combination of widening, realignment and pavement rehabilitation.

The main aim of the road upgrade is to ensure safety as road traffic increases. The installation of bus bays for school buses to stop more easily, and a better road will provide significant benefits to residents.

Sally Mullinger, Business Manager Works, Mid-Western Operations says that the partnership with Cobbora Holding Company will benefit residents.

“This will help Council upgrade roads as well as encourage development across the Region”.

Previously, locating rural properties required a definition

like ‘a few miles past the grid’. This has caused delays and

inconvenience for emergency services and deliveries.

Rural residents are now able to apply for a free clearly

a standardised system that is easy to understand. For a Rural

Council is currently working with Regional Development Australia Orana to develop its 2013-2016 Regional Plan. This is an important tool which sets out RDA Orana’s economic, environmental and social vision for the region, identifies key goals and priorities, describes actions that will be taken to capitalise on opportunities and address the barriers to economic growth.
