•And for tonights main story, news companies such as the BBC News,Daily Mail,Guardian,Sky news and the Independent, have now released news apps. Where the public can now access the news on their phone

• The recent headlines of all of the apps are mostly on the bomb attacks that have happened in the US

Page 4: News

• The headlines are:• BBC-New York bombs “both pressure cookers”

• Daily Mail “The hero cops injured during Final shootout with New York and New Jersey bomber as bar owner reveals how he spotted the terrorist asleep in his doorway”

• Guardian “US bombing/five more devices found at train station in new jersey

Page 7: News

• Sky news “NY bomb suspect charged with attempted murder”

• Independent “The war without end”

• Majority of the news apps have a top news tab, which happen to be updated hourly.

• This makes it easy for the public to see and access the top news that is currently happening in the world today.

• However,for the independent the public have to pay for the news story. The way they present their news is by having the top news story on the front of the page

• All news platforms have their news articles in third person. The BBC, Guardian, Sky News and the Independent use formal language. Using words such as “misdirected” “ Offences’ “ Incident” and “Condolences”

• The Daily Mail on the other hand uses informal language. Using slang words such as “flipping” and expletive words such as “dazed”

• The Daily Mail uses informal language, however maybe not as informal as the sun

• The BBC and the Guardian also use slang words such as “Hide and seek”. However for the BBC, they mainly have their slang words in quotes from witnesses.

• Majority of these news apps have small paragraphs and break up these paragraphs through pictures and videos.

• This is to ensure that the audience is still engaged in the story.

• Also, all of the news apps have one big main headline and small headlines underneath.

• The Daily Mail and Sky news frequently use short sentences, this could be because their audience might not want to read paragraphs after paragraphs of information

• The rest of the news platforms use long and sometimes complex sentences when writing their news stories. This could be because they have an older target audience and they would be able to understand what they are reading

• Unlike the rest of the news platforms, the independent have their news article written up in columns, like a traditional newspaper layout.

•This could be because their target audience prefer that layout

• The Independents influence is their target audience who might be older age, maybe 50+. This could be because the Independent uses ambitious vocabulary that younger readers might not be able to read.You could say that the Independent have a niche target audience

• The BBC, Sky News and the Guardian all have the target audience of working class, middle aged people (20-60).They are all influenced by this type of audience. You could say that these news providers have a mass target audience as the news stories they provide would appeal to everyone.

• As they all have a mass audience, the BBC,Sky News and the Guardian have various types of topics. Varying from sport to politics. This is to ensure all types of people will read their news articles

• The Daily Mail also have a mass audience.It is said that their target audience is mainly women, as 55% of its readers are women. This means that the Daily Mail have to chose topics that would interest women

• Which is why most of the Daily Mail’s content is celebrity news and controversial topics. These are the types of news content women would be thought to be appealed to stereotypically

• The audiences expectations vary depending on the news company.

• For the BBC, Guardian, Sky News and The Independent,the audiences expectations are that the news that they produce is unbiased,informative and very formal

• The audiences expectations of the Daily Mail is that it should have informative content but have a slight bit of humour in it. Perhaps maybe even be a bit bias

• All of the news apps use pictures and videos in their news stories. This is to make sure the audience are still engaged in what they are reading.

• The pictures and videos are relevant to what the news story is. The daily mail though are notorious for using controversial pictures to draw more people in

• Majority of the the top stories are mainly in global news, politics and the Paralympics; news stories and events/stories that are currently happening in the world today.Stories that the general public are interested in.

• The BBC have a section where the audience can add their own news stories. The audience can tailer their account to make their own personalised news feed.

• By doing this, the audience can easily receive news that interests them

• The Daily Mail,Guardian and the Independent have a share button, where the audience can share the news stories through social media and online mail.

• The Daily Mail also have a comment section, where the audience can can comment on their opinions of the story

• The Independent however don’t have a share section. The audience cannot express their opinions of share the news story they are interested in
