EXPERT TALK ON PERFORMANCE BASED DESIGN OF BIO COMPOSITES FOR RETROFITTING AND REFURBISHMENT OF THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT BY DR. ANA BRAS

Outcome

The nature of deem-to-satisfy standards in buildings and structural performance results in a lack of insight over their consequences. By defining the performance of a structure or a constructive solution, it will become possible to select the best retrofit and refurbishment measure for a certain purpose (such as to improve respective service life or even to minimise sick building syndrome) using bio-based composite solutions. Practical examples of the implementation of probabilistic models of performance will be presented, namely for the best repair option of the concrete of a quaystructure exposed to an aggressive marine micro-environments.
