The end of another busy semester is fast approaching, andInstitutional Research Data has just come out, showing that Manipal University M&E Division has thesecond larg-est undergraduate headcount at The Manipal University for this semester.

It was yet another fabulous month filled with academic hustles and activity bustles. Reeload, the Film Festival con-ducted by the MBA students was the first of its kind.

The event witnessed active participation from various institutions across the coun-try and even a few international entries. Let me congratulate all the organisers for doing a fantastic effort and wish to see more next year.

Talking on films, we had an eminent scholar and filmmaker who visited the campus in the Month of April. K.Hariharan, the Director of LV Prasad Film Academy, Chennai took two days of masterclass for the MBA students covering all aspects of film production

The month of May will make Manipal go green. The M&E Division is all geared to conduct the Cyclothon event on the 7th of the month which would be the “Earth Day” as support to the Go Green Campaign.

“I want to show my toys!” :Prof. Shiva (Faculty, BSc. Animation)

ItIt is easy to question the motive of holding a toy exhi-bition in a college, let alone a college consisting of BSc Animation and MBA – Media & Entertainment students; but, do we really need a reason to become children again?

So what started off as a sceptical attempt to make our half hearted presence felt in the event, turned out to be a refreshing walk down memory lane. All the exhibits were displayed in a class room. From the expected su-perhero posters, toy action figures, advanced remote controlled cars, teddy bears and dolls to more concept based content like sketches, face paintings and real lifelife models, the place was teeming with life; wide- eyed, innocent, carefree life.

Our contribution to this Toy Story came from Yuvaraj Vamsi, Neha and Supriya who participated and won the runners up prize in the exhibition.

By the time the word about the exhibition spread and the junta started pouring in, it was time to wrap up the show. Much like childhood, you don’t know when it comes and you don’t know when it goes. -as told to Angad Singh

The Big Event

UTSAV 2011 : A Sort of HomecomingEvery once in a while, each of us undertakes a jour-ney to trace our roots, while this journey may not neces-sarily lead us to our destination, but at some level, it always leads us to a home. A home we had never known, or a home we had heard of, or a home patiently awaiting our return.

Our journey took us to Manipal University, a home we had heard of. And what better way to welcome us back than ‘Utsav’, the annual cultural extravaganza of Kas-turba Medical College, Manipal held from the 11th to 15th of April 2011. We, the students of Manipal Univer-sity, MBA – Media & Entertainment, Bangalore, all geared up to meet our creators in the most ironic setting, a cultural competition. If it takes a competition to unite us, so be it!

In between the various competitive routines, we all took out time to appreciate the kingdom that is Manipal. A few hundred yards and you’re looking at a new college, com-plete with its hostels and an academic block. And once you make your way to the centre, you’re looking at the state-of-the art manipal.edu building, an architectural spectacle! Walk out of that building and you’re at the three-levelthree-level food court, with an array of cuisines to cater to your taste buds. All this made it difficult for us to un-derstand whether this was a college in a township or the other way round.

Coming back to our main objective, our students, Coming back to our main objective, our students, sixty in strength, accompanied by Prof. Prashant Mallur, were making a mark in all the events. We did exceedingly well in most of the disciplines with spe-cial mention to the Fashion Show, Mime & Street Play and a few individual song and dance routines. Praveen Reddy won the 3rd Prize for Spot Photogra-phy.

By the end of five days, our energies spent and our efforts appreciated, we were all set to come back to Bangalore. Our journey had not led us to our destina-tion, but surely a home, a home that favoured our sib-lings more…- as recollected by Birju Ramprasad
