News interviews and outside broadcast
What is it? How can you do your very own news
interview? What's the purpose?
NEWS INTERVIEWS?The purpose of a news interview is to explain an idea, event or situation in the news. For effective interviews, reporters organize and prepare carefully. They ask questions that encourage the source to talk freely. Questions are focused at attaining information on a subject. The reporter usually notes down what is said and how it is said as well as what is not said. News reporters can encourage the interviewee by displaying gestures and facial expressions that show them they should keep talking. To do an interview you need to ensure you do research on the interview topic and the person you are going to interview. This is so you can ask the right questions and understand their answers. The major purpose of an interview is to obtain quotes, anecdotes and other evidence to support that story. Furthermore it’s good to List questions in advance to the interview.
EXAMPLE: A good example I think, is the Jonathan Ross show. Jonathan Ross owns a chat show, so he prepares for interviews with different celebrities all the time. He asks questions that everybody wants to know as well as entertaining the interviewee at the same time, so they feel more happy and relaxed to share their views and opinions.
OUTSIDE BROADCASTThis is when any television or radio programme broadcasts from a location away from the standard studio . In order to do this you take your show on the road. This can be in open air or in any settings outside the usual studio. This adds a new perception and perspective for viewers. You need to make sure you get the right equipment. How much equipment you need depends on if the outside broadcast is going to be simple and small or a big event.
EXAMPLE For example the BBC often do outside broadcasts. They put music festivals on and tie it in with their radio shows. They ensure they promote the festivals and listen to what their audience wants, so they get a big audience tuning in.
