NEWS II Everything you need to know about Wines & Steins 2017 - October 14, 2017 - 7:00-10:00pm
What Will We Taste?
There will be quite a variety of wines and craft beers to taste at Wines
and Steins this year! And, the best part is, any wine or beer you love can
be purchased that evening! Look forward to enjoying these wines and
beers:
White Wine
Cuvée Izzy - Bordeaux, France
Cuvée Izzy leads with a lively bouquet of fresh fruit and well balanced acidity.
Sweet citrus, green apples, and a touch of tropical fruitiness grace the palate.
Mosketto Bianco - Piedmont, Italy
On the nose, a fresh mix of fresh fruit, rose petals and white flowers. A slight
sparkle gives the wine a refreshing taste, with a low alcohol content and
sweetness.
Tiki Estate Maui Sauvignon Blanc - New Zealand
Aromas of citrus and peach complexed with a background of herbal notes
merge together to create a welcoming bouquet. The full flavors and tight
structure of the palate reflect the intrinsic attributes of the Estate’s Wairau
Valley vineyards. Blending of selected fruit from our vineyards has created a
spectrum of classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc flavors that are supported
by a refreshing acidity and perfectly balanced residual sugar.
Forty Winks Riesling – Fennville, Michigan
Riesling is one of the better grapes Michigan produces. This is a great example.
Floral on the nose, stone fruit on the palate and a semi-sweet finish. Great with
Asian cuisine and spicy foods!
Sparkling Wine
Mamamango Moscato - Italy
The experience of Arione guarantees high-quality ingredients: the Arione
Muscat and aromatic sparkling white wine and the natural pulp of fresh
mango. These ingredients give life to an exclusive and inimitable taste. 95%
Moscato 5% real Mango puree.
Fili Prosecco - Italy
If you're a fan of good bubbly then this Italian classic is a must-try. With its
floral aromas and crisp citrusy fruit, this is a wonderfully refreshing fizz.
Rose Wine
Gfruit Rose - France
This a delicious blend of 80% Cotes du Provence Rose and grapefruit juice. It is beyond refreshing, and dangerously
delicious!!
Guillaume Gonnet “Le Reveur” Rose - CDR, France
Guillaume Gonnet’s beautifully complex rosé is distinguished by its vibrant red currant, crisp pomegranate, and pink
grapefruit character. Wonderful garrigue and soil intensity can be found throughout this dry wine. It is made using
the direct press method and vinified in stainless steel tanks.
Red Wine
Tago Red Blend – Portugal
The estate is located in Alpiarça, in the heart of the Tejo Pinhal da. This powerful wine has a lovely ruby color with lots
of blue fruits, truffles, toast and pepper. Aged in a barrel for 6 months, it boasts a fine structure with ripe tannins and
bright acidity on the finish.
Laveguilla Expresion Tempranillo – Duero, Spain
Bright cherry red color with subtle purple rim. Fresh and balsamic with delicate notes of ripe fruit. Well-balanced,
velvety and fresh with a long persistent pleasant and smooth finish.
Guillaume Gonnet “Le Reveur” - Cotes Du Rhone, France
Guillaume Gonnet’s “Le Rêveur ” is distinguished by its charming carmine color. On the palate, juicy red berry fruit
flavors emerge and are supported by savory spices and pepper notes. The wine is vinified in stainless steel.
The Crusher Pinot Noir – Clarksburg, CA
This boldly aromatic Pinot opens with notes of sweet cherry & dark chocolate, giving way to a hint of smoky oak &
light rose petal. It easily breaks the rule that white wine must go with seafood & red wine with red meat.
Signature Selections
Gehricke Zinfandel - Sonoma, California
Violets are elegant on the nose and a surprise of vanilla mint eeks through just before you taste a rustic bramble of
cherry and blueberry. Dried plums and chocolate tannins offer a firmness while creamy blueberry licorice softens the
texture (the wine is aged 18 months in French oak). Reminiscent of a fine Italian red, perhaps with a richer and riper
attitude.
Beckman Syrah – Ballard Canyon, California
Soaring from the glass are aromas of chocolate, smoke, blackberries, and game. The mouth is full with rich flavors of
dark berries, vanilla, pepper, and more chocolate, with fine, ripe tannins that carry the fruit through an incredibly long
finish. A fantastic vintage of PMV Syrah, this wine will drink well from 2016 – 2031.
Beer
Pacific Coast Cider: Dry Hard Apple Cider with
Pinot Grigio
Virtue Michigan Brut Cider
Maplewood Pulaski Pils
Penrose Taproom IPA
Pollyanna Acclimation Belgian Golden Ale
Pumpkin Ale (TBD)

New at Wines and Steins: STA Wine Glasses!
Doesn’t wine taste best out of a real wine glass? We think so! This year,
guests can purchase a stemless wine glass that says “St. Thomas the
Apostle School” so that you can enjoy your tastings out of a real wine
glass the night of the event.
Wine glasses can be purchased in advance on-line: (https://
www.givecentral.org/location/358/event/13949) and through the
school office. Please make checks payable to: STA School Endowment
Fund. Each glass costs $5.00 and will be available for guests the night
of the event.
Not able to attend Wines and Steins this year? You can still support the
STA School Endowment Fund by purchasing one of these special
edition wine glasses! They will be available for pick-up in the school
office after October 14th.
