Friendship Conference The USA/Mexico Friendship Conference and Global Grants Exchange ’17 will be held October 26-30 at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Scotts- dale. Rotarians, spouses and friends are invited. The event will be hosted by Rotary District 5495. A native of Chandler, Jay served eight years in the Arizona State Sen-ate, has been Chandler mayor twice and is in his seventh term. He also is current President of the League of Arizona Cities, which includes all cities and towns in the state. He is being term-limited out so he announced he plans to run for Justice of the Peace.

He told us Chandler has applied to be a second American headquarters for Amazon. He noted location in the East Valley would benefit Chandler even if they didn’t locate here.

Marty Herder paid for Soo Stevens-Clarke and Tiffany Jones sending photos of their trip to Eu-rope, and his daughter committing to Grand Canyon University. Brad Raymond paid a sad dollar for the Las Vegas massacre and losing Tom Petty.

The mayor said the city will continue to develop and improve streets, also noting that Chandler continues to rate near the lowest in rates for services. He said the city is trying to slow down apartment building and they are dealing with storage problems.

He noted more resources that are becoming available in “uptown” Chandler. He said the council will “keep the options open” on light rail for the city.
