The entrance to the beach will start with a concrete plaza, pathway and stairs right off the Oak Leaf Trail and just south of the crosswalk at Lincoln Memorial Drive. Mobi-Mats (seasonal beach access mats) will be attached to the end of the pathway allowing visitors to go right to beautiful Lake Michigan’s water’s edge. Accessible beach wheelchairs will also be available for visitors to check out to further explore the beach and can even go right into the water! MCFI PROGRAMS OPENING Services for adults opening in July @MCFISocial We are excited to announce that MCFI’s in-person day services and brain health programing will re-open in July. Since temporarily closing those programs in March due to COVID-19, we have been diligently developing procedures and practices to create a safe environment for our clients, families and staff that align with local, state and national health guidelines. We have heard from many clients and families who are excited to return to in-person programming. We know this transition may not be easy but rest assured that staff is well-qualified to help with any re-adjustment issues. While so many are eager to return, we also know that some are reluctant right now to fully engage with others, or they have so enjoyed our remote programming that they want to continue with that approach. MCFI’s remote programs were designed to keep clients engaged while providing them with a sense of structure and comfort during our public health crisis. Because they were so well received, remote programming will continue to be offered along with in-person services offered at our Bay View campus, 3333 S. Howell Ave., Milwaukee. For more specific program information as well as dates and times of services, please contact LIFE/Brain Health Director Kalli Reinheimer, [email protected] . MCFI’s mission is to partner with people of all abilities to advance their total health. To learn more about MCFI’s 80-year legacy of innovation, please visit www.mcfi.net .

Make sure you are up to date on your breast cancer screenings. Here are some facts about breast cancer detection:

•Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women.

•There is no way to tell who will get breast cancer. All women are at risk. One in 8 women will get breast cancer in their lifetime and in 80 percent of cases, there is no family history.

•Breast cancer can be treated. Survival rates are best with early detection.

•Mammograms can cause discomfort, but the breast compression only lasts a few seconds. Many beauty procedures cause much more pain, including hair plucking, waxing, tattooing, piercings and microdermabrasion.

•The American Cancer Society and many doctors recommend that women age 40 and older have a mammogram every year.

•Women in their 20s and 30s should have a breast exam as part of their regular physical at least once every three years.

•Breast self-exams are one way to detect changes in your breasts. Report any changes to your doctor right away.

Lisa Blanchard, RN, MBA, is a Quality Improvement

Coordinator at MHS Health. She encourages women to follow their doctor’s

recommended schedule for mammograms.

EARLY DETECTION IS THE BEST DEFENSE
