We help families grow into their dreams.

This annual report will focus on the activities of 2015. The year went fast, and we were so blessed. You will see how Sipe’s works to improve the lives of children and youth.

In 2016, we want to focus on Excellence and Stewardship. It’s not enough to just have programs for children–we want excellent programs which will give children and youth a solid foundation for success. Our Tyndall Pre-K will add some literacy initiatives to its curriculum. Our Houston Transitional Living Program will expand its services as well as its capacity.

In 2016, we will more fully utilize the land and buildings on our campus, becoming better stewards of our facilities. We have made many improvements this year and will continue to use and care for our resources and create an environment that shows our youth they are valued.

I’m grateful for 2015 and looking forward to 2016.

The Children’s Advocacy and Protection Center of Catawba County moved to the Sipe’s campus this summer, occupying the office annex of the Tyndall Center. The CAPC provides an array of services to children who are victims of child abuse and neglect.

Tyndall CenterThere’s never a dull moment in the Tyndall Center’s NCPK classrooms. Besides the games, artwork, books, toys, meals, snacks, and playground time, a host of special guests and activities keep the children busy, learning, and engaged.

Houston Cottage

The Houston Transitional Living Program served 23 youth last year. They all found jobs, continued their educations, and many are enrolled in college. They learned to cook, drive, make money, save money, plan ahead, solve problems, and get along with each other.

Two residents spoke at a board of directors meeting about their growth in the program. And once again, Houston was a stop on Catawba County’s i-Care Tour, enabling staff and residents to share the Houston Cottage program with the community.

The Cognitive Connection’s S.M.A.R.T. Youth Program held a Youth Summit on campus, offering numerous educational challenges for young adults. S.M.A.R.T.–Students Making a Right Turn–is housed on the Sipe’s campus, and provides GED classes, counseling, and employment assistance for youth, some of whom live in Houston Cottage.

Huckleberry Summer CampAs it has done for nine years, Huckleberry Summer Camp again offered kids a chance to be kids. The picnics, games, guests, special activities, field trips, food, and fun helped children enjoy their summer, learn a few things, make some new friends, and have a good time.
