Children’s Message:
Rev. Dr. Steve Louder
Cumberland Presbyterians relate our histor-
ical roots showing we were born out of the
Great Revival of the 1800s. While it is good
to have pride in our heritage we overlook the
events leading up to spreading the Good
News on the frontier: a long ride, time, and a
night of prayer. The events were a return to
the Word of God and a message sent through
the power of the Holy Spirit to people who
intently searched for Him. The writer of Co-
lossians in 4:2 encourages believers to
“continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant
in it with thanksgiving.” Fast forward 218
years, can we honestly say we are devoted to
praise, prayer and the Word? As we accept
the covenant of grace we must also commit
to communing with God while building a rela-
tionship where we share the deepest desires
of our heart and openly praise Him. The rela-
tionship offered is not to a select few or a
secrete organization, so all are invited to de-
velop the habit of meeting regularly with the
Lord.
Hectic schedules and daily pressures make
it easy for the day to slip by without keeping
our appointment with God. We wouldn’t do
this in our professional relationships and
shouldn’t with the Giver of life. It is a great
honor to have a sacred time, and it should be
always kept and if something gets pushed
back it should be not God’s time. So we set a
definite time and also a place. We are sur-
rounded by things that seek our attention.
We need a place where interruptions are
not permitted and where we will not be dis-
turbed. Oh, we can say that it is not possi-
ble but it really is if we wish. Couples are
encouraged to build their relationship by
spending quality time together. One couple
related that it didn’t really work for them.
The reason was no planning, no real con-
versation and no activity. In our relation-
ship with God there must be some kind of
intentional planning. We must intentionally
prepare our hearts through Bible Study fill-
ing our lives with His unconditional love
and acceptance enabling us to share our
inner most thoughts. Having a relationship
of trust gives direction so that we know a
word from the Lord is always the right word.
In our praising and praying to God we
should ask for a passion to know Him
more, a request that He will always grant.
The passion crowds out our self centered
thoughts giving insight and knowledge to
the things of life that is important. The
more time we spend with Him, the more we
will never want to miss the opportunity.
Our desire will become to be drawn closer
renewing our commitment to prayer, medi-
tation and the study of His Word and the
most important time of the day becomes
spending time with Him.

CONSTRUCTION LOAN POST
PAID IN FULL We are still accepting donations to the Capital Building Fund for future maintenance.
If you have noticed it was hard to find me in the office this Summer. I would like to report
back to you about where I was with the youth and how God was present.
I am pleased to report that our group at Synodic (senior high) used their time for everything it
was worth. We had members of our group pouring out and receiving life from other youth at
the camp. We had youth take roles in leadership and planning for future camps. Lastly, we had
youth that showed an incredible amount of love for their fellow members as they ensured that
each member was able to fit in and fully participate in the final night of camp where the kids
dressed up for a “nice dinner”. This was a place to see our small group really step up and ma-
ture.
Cumberland Presbyterian Youth Conference attracted a smaller group from our church, but
meaningful nonetheless. If you are unfamiliar with CPYC, it is essentially the best gathering our
denomination does. Kids from other countries and all over the United States gather once a
year for a gathering of worship and fellowship at Bethel University. Our kids branched out to
make connections with kids all over the world, shared meaningfully in their discussion groups,
and engaged deeply with the daily messages and themes from our speaker and preachers.
With that being said, I can’t leave out an amazing performance of Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caro-
line at the talent sharing night by one of our own that was a hit with the entire conference.
Junior High Camp was the most recent part of the summer experience. It was completely
meaningful in a way that was similar, but also different.
In my time with all the kids of the camp we got to connect over where they needed more of
God in the world. The kids of camp shared the struggles they faced in school, at home, and the
demands that the world put on them. They were able to meaningfully contribute these to our
worship experience as we took time to step out of the world and examine where we need to
help bring the presence of God further in to it by living out our faith.
While this summer has been completely exhausting it has also been worthwhile. The faith
and lives of the youth in our church is incredible and worth engaging.
