Organised every two years alternately withthe Fête du Fleuve event, Bordeaux Fête leVin is an international event devoted to thewines of Bordeaux and Aquitaine.Over four days from 24th to 27th June 2010,from 11am until midnight, visitors candiscover and sample the wines of the regionon the quays of this UNESCO-listed worldheritage site. 80 appellations includingBordeaux, Bordeaux Supérieur, Saint-Émilion/Pomerol/Fronsac, Médoc and othermajor Aquitaine brands, will form a two-kilo-metre wine route along the Garonne.Gastronomy will also be high on the agendathis year, with three pavilions devoted totraditional regional produce and several acti-vities based on wine and food pairings. ach evening, the day’s visitors can also enjoy ahigh-quality programme of art and music.Twinned with the city of Bordeaux, Québec isthe star of the show at this year’s event, andwill be celebrated over the course of thefour-day event through activities, entertain-ment and a dedicated pavilion.For a festive break in the city, Bordeaux Fêtele Vin is an unmissable event for all lovers ofwine and conviviality.

SPRING 2010

The Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux is organising an exceptionalweekend for all wine connoisseurs, scheduled to take place between5th and 6th June 2010. During these two days, wine-lovers can tastemore than 100 grands crus presented at Hangar 14 (from 10.30am to5pm), visit a château and share a meal with wine estate managers. Theweekend is organised around these three main features.

Tasting of Grands CrusDuring the tasting session, wine-lovers can discover wines in idealconditions and share their impressions with producers.Entry to Hangar 14 is €56 if booked before 4th June, and €71 ifpayment is made on arrival. Students and professionals pay half price(on presentation of proof of identity).

Dinner in a châteauOn Saturday evening, guests are invited to dine at the table of châteauowners where several wines from different appellations will bepresented with commentaries from the owners themselves.Prices for wine estate evenings: €135 per person, with transportincluded. Booking essential before 25th May 2010. A fun evening for 18-35 year olds is also scheduled to take place inBordeaux city centre. Entrance fee: €60.

Wine estate visitsSunday is devoted to wine tourism with several estate members of theUnion des Grands Crus de Bordeaux opening their doors for themedtours. Three tours are available departing from Bordeaux to thevineyards of the Médoc, Saint-Émilion and Sauternes. Tour prices: €90 per person, with tasting sessions, tours and lunchincluded.Golf enthusiasts can also participate in the Coupe de l’Union desGrands Crus, a tournament where amateurs and professionals canboth join in. comes to Aquitaine

Several key stages in the third week of theTour de France will take place in theregion of Aquitaine, and on 19th July 2010,the “Grande Boucle“ will celebrate thehundredth anniversary of the first routethrough the Pyrenees. Four tough stagesare lined up to celebrate this landmarkmoment in the history of the Tour. Afterpassing through the Landes, the racingcyclists will arrive on the recently-reno-vated Bordeaux quaysides. Finally, the daybefore the race finishes at the Champs-Élysées, the teams will battle it out duringa totally new stage: an ultimate “raceagainst the clock” between Bordeaux andPauillac, at the heart of the Médoc wineregion.For this 97th event, the Tour de France ismaking a grand return to the South West,where entertainment will be on theagenda.

Aquitaine has been successfully addressing environmentalconservation for a number of years, with many of theregion’s campsites committed to the development of sustai-nable tourism, notably via eco-design of their facilities. Anumber of campsites have recently obtained Europeancertifications in recognition of their efforts.

One of the great pleasures of camping is enjoying theaquatic recreational facilities that a campsite has to offer.A number of campsites in the Aquitaine region havedecided to invest in this particular area, which is enjoyedby children and adults alike. The desire for rest and relaxa-tion has also prompted some campsites to create spaareas devoted to wellbeing.

VCub = Bordeaux by bike

Following the example of Paris, Lyon andToulouse to name a few, Bordeaux UrbanCommunity is launching a bike sharingsystem: VCUB or V3, pronounced ‘V Cube’.The concept is simple. The user subscribesfor a certain amount of time (a day, a week, amonth or a year), leaves a deposit and can usethe V3 for the duration of the subscription,with the first half-hour offered free of charge.With this new service, tourists can now visitBordeaux Urban Area by bike. Visit the “Port of the Moon”by catamaranTourists visiting the city of Bordeaux can nowdiscover the city from the river, in a 380Lagoon catamaran with the capacity toaccommodate 12 people. The river excursionlasts for an hour and a quarter, and offers anoriginal way to discover the façades andquays of Bordeaux.
