A famed English explorer was invited to Dartmouth to tell of his adventures in the African jungle. "Can you imagine, a people so primitive that they love to eat the embryo of certain birds, and slices from the belly of certain animals? And grind up grass seed, make it into paste, burn it over a fire, then smear it with a greasy mess they extract from the mammary fluid of certain other animals?" When the students looked startled by such barbarism, the explorer added softly, "What I've been describing, of course, is a breakfast of bacon and eggs and buttered toast."

The Priest was preparing a man for his long day's journey into night. Whispering firmly, the Priest said, "Denounce the devil! Let him know how little you think of him!" The dying man said nothing. The priest repeated his order. Still the man said nothing. The priest asked, "Why do you refuse to denounce the devil and his evil?" The dying man said, "Until I know for sure where I'm heading, I don't think I ought to aggravate anybody."

A judge was annoyed to find that his car wouldn't start. He called a taxi, and soon one arrived at his house. Climbing in, he told the driver to take him to the halls of justice. "Where are they," asked the driver. "You mean to say that you don't know where the courthouse is?" asked the incredulous judge. "The courthouse? Of course I know where that is." replied the driver. "But I thought you said you wanted to go to the 'halls of justice.'"

Commanding Officers Message LaunchofnewGenerationalServiceInsignia
The RCMP recently announced the launch of the Generational Service Insignia, a pin designed to recognize the loyalty, dedication and sacrifice of generations of familial service to the RCMP. The pin is now being distributed to regular members, civilian members, and long-term public service employees in “K” Division whose immediate family members have served within the ranks of the RCMP. The Corp Sergeant Major is managing distribution of the Generational Service Insignia and we anticipate it will also be available in the very near future to RCMP Vets whose immediate family members also served in the Force. Immediate family includes grandparents, parents, children, siblings and spouses. This is a great initiative which celebrates not only the RCMP family but also the families within the Force and I appreciate the hard work of our CSM in bringing this concept to fruition.
Alookbackat2016
The holiday season is the natural time to look back and take stock on the year that has passed. This was a particularly eventful year given our collective efforts on behalf of the community of Wood Buffalo. As proud as I am of the frontline employees who responded to this crisis, I am equally proud of the Vets in Alberta who stepped up to raise money and donated their time to help other Albertans. During several events including the Lobster and Corn Boil in Calgary and the Vets Appreciation Dinner in St. Albert I have spoken about other ways our employees have demonstrated courage and conviction, sometimes in the face of great adversity. I am proud of these men and women who wear the red serge today and I hope you share my pride.
As I have already reminded our employees, please take special care on the road over the coming weeks. The mix of poor road conditions and holiday festivities can be a dangerous one, as we know only too well.
Finally, I wish you all a safe and happy season and all the best for the New Year.
D/Comm. Marianne Ryan
