Conor in the papers:Dorset MPs take wind farm fight to DavidCameron Melanie Vass, Bournemouth EchoSaturday 11th July 2015
Conor Burns with fellow Dorset MPs Richard Drax (SouthDorset), Chris Chope (Christchurch), Tobias Ellwood
(Bournemouth East) and Michael Tomlinson (Mid Dorset & NorthPoole) at the door to No. 10 prior to a meeting with the Prime
Minister regarding Navitus Bay. Five Dorset MPs took their antiwind farm arguments straight tothe top and put their case directly to Prime Minister David Cameron. Bournemouth's two MPs Conor Burns and Tobias Ellwood,Christchurch MP Christopher Chope, South Dorset MP Richard Draxand the new Mid Dorset and North Poole MP Michael Tomlinson had a25 minute meeting with the Prime Minister. Afterwards, Mr Burns said he was confident they had made the mostof their last real chance to try and make their collective voice heardbefore a decision is made on the controversial wind farm application inSeptember. Mr Burns said: "Obviously the Prime Minister started the meeting bysaying he could listen to us but couldn't really respond because anydecision could be subject to judicial review. "But we were able to make a number of points to him, mainly aboutthe potential impact on tourism, about the economic impact on jobsand the fact that we told the developer at the beginning that providingthere was very little visual impact we would not oppose it but theyhave chosen a development closer to shore and with a high visualimpact." He said they also stressed that the level of public objections to theNavitus proposal was higher than for any other offshore wind farm thathad gone through and that they believed the Government could meetits renewable offshore target without Navitus. "We were keen to point out that we had all stood at the last election onplatforms of opposition to this and we were looking to him to help usfulfil those promises," he said. "He was very receptive, he very much understood the points we weremaking." The Daily Echo's acting editor, Andy Martin, quizzed Mr Cameron on avisit to Lytchett during the election campaign in April.
