D23 Newsletter for OctoberTRANSCRIPT
Hello Yeti’s! When you are advertising your clubs event’s, it’s important to make sure all of
your resources are covered– posters up, event in the newspaper, your contact list texted,
there is a tweet about your event, the event becomes your Facebook status– in other words
have the word out there about your event. That’s extremely important, correct? Well it’s
the same when it comes to your club and Division 23’s Newsletter! Advertising your club,
showing off your club, telling D23 what your members think of Key Club, is extremely
important.
Do you keep secrets from your family? Okay, well some you do, but that is besides the
point. Most “secrets” you have, you share with your family. Key Club is one of your families.
Why keep secrets for your KC family– your Yeti family?
Communication is KEY- especially when you are a part of the largest geographical division
in the CNH District! Email me ([email protected]), Text me (775-625-0568), your club
news, pictures, articles, quotes, ANYTHING send it to me! If your club has a newsletter,
email it to me! I would love to read it! Let’s share everything we’ve got with our yeti family.
On Sunday, September 11, Key Clubbers from North Valleys,
Reed, Reno, and Wooster attended a Division Council Meeting at
the Sparks Marina. At 1:00pm we opened with an Ice Breaker “2
truths and a lie." This was followed by a discussion of how to
keep members interested in Key Club, successful fundraising ide-
as, and finally Fall Rally. Fall Rally will be October 29th at Six
Flags Discovery Kingdom. Most of the details have been decided
and they are as follows: All Key Clubbers attending Fall Rally will
be at Earl Wooster High School at 5:30am. There, we will get on
a bus and the bus will be leaving the parking lot at 5:59am. On
the bus ride to Vallejo, CA, members may sleep, relax, "chill,"
and such. We will arrive at Six Flags around 9:30am. From there,
members will go into the auditorium where the rally is held and
Spirit Battles will rise, and District Board Members will be bought
with money raised for the Pediatric Trauma Program. Around
12:00pm, everyone will be set loose into the park. We will leave
around 9:30 or 10:00 and will arrive back in Reno from 12:00-
1:00am. If needed, the return time is subject to change. Other
news: it will be approximately $80 per member to attend. Please
contact your club President for more details! Division t-shirt de-
signed by Truman Chan and another spirit item will be included
with this price. We ended the DCM with a great game of volley-
ball! Thank you to all that attended. I hope I see more Yetis at
the next DCM!

I never wear makeup, because I like
looking natural. Some people may call me a hippy. I enjoy boot-cut jeans and
tie-dye shirts when I'm not sporting my San Francisco Giants or Wooster
Volleyball gear. I have long blonde hair and blue eyes and people would know
its me because I am always acting very theatrical. I have a very free-
spirited and care-free attitude!
It’s our LtG, Alyssa Yocom!
Most people will need to tilt their head slightly down to see me. I walk like I'm on a mission
and I'm usually wearing flip-flops and a Key Club shirt! Life is about being comfortable and
putting little effort into getting ready in the morning. I walk around with a smile on my
face and my green-hazel eyes glisten in the sunsets I watch almost every night.
You know it’s Mr. Mike...
If a random person saw me wandering, they would recognize me by my beard
(on and off but mostly on for 50 years) and glasses. I am usually wearing jeans
and a polo shirt and my hair (\what's left) and beard are almost totally white.
Is it Alli Lampshire?
People can easily tell I am me by my car- it is the only purple car in Winnemucca.
Typically I am in jeans, flip-flops or black converses', a shirt- usually colorful or semi
-formal for wearing around school. I al-ways straighten or curl my hair- very rare-
ly I will let the wind flow through my natu-ral curly hair. I have been told I have very
bright blue eyes. Oh and the easiest way a person can tell I am Alli Lampshire is by
my height; when your looking for me, look up for my head.

“GET READY FOR THE YETI”
Hello Division 23 Yetis!
Hopefully you are all enjoying this school year! Although this school year will be filled with an
abundance of hard work, this Key Club year is going to be filled with fun events, service op-portunities, club socials, and many, many memories!
Key Club is the perfect vacation from school’s everyday routine. Serving the community while bonding with friends gives off an absolutely MAGICAL feeling! So set aside some time in your
busy schedule to get out and serve others. Not only does it help: it feels good! Each club has many service projects that they will partake in. Also, the Division Leadership Team is planning a few service opportunities for all of the clubs to come together such as: River Clean Up, Phil-
anthropic Fundraising for the Pediatric Trauma Program, JDRF Walk for Life, Trick or Treat for UNICEF, Philanthropic Fundraising for The Eliminate Project, and more.
Attending Division Council Meetings (DCM) is another great way to meet Key Club members from all over Region 6! At DCMs we discuss upcoming service and fundraising opportunities as well as hold short workshops to help each club. Beyond that- DCMs are a great opportunity to
gather ideas from other clubs about things that may work for you home club.
Region 6’s Region Training Conference will be held at the University of Nevada, Reno on Octo-ber 23rd from 12:00-4:00. This conference will provide each member with the opportunity to
learn a lot about Key Club, themselves as leaders, as well as play games and meet others from our Region. Our California-Nevada-Hawaii District Governor Erinn Wong will be joining us as well. So mark your calendars for a great day!
I have highlighted some of the great events that we have going on for this year! As your Lieu-tenant Governor, I am here to serve YOU. So, if you have an idea, want to get more involved,
have any questions or comments: please contact me at any time!
Hi there D23! I challenge each of you to send me
an email ([email protected]) telling me
why you joined Key Club! I can't wait to hear from
you all! Example: I joined Key Club because I
love to help others because of the feeling I get
from service
JDRF
Walk to Cure Diabetes will be held at the University
of Nevada, Reno on October 9th at 10:00am. This
service event raises money to cure Diabetes. Our
division will have a team. Following this event, a
DCM will be held at UNR. Please contact your club

Car Wash– by Danielle Kovaltchouk
Saturday September 17, Wooster and Reed
High Schools got together at Wooster and
held a Car Wash from 9-3 to raise money
to go to Fall Rally. We made $358 total and
we split the money evenly between the two
schools. I personally liked the car wash be-
cause it got everyone to work together and
let people make new friends with people
that didn't even go to their own school. It
was a great day and everyone had a blast. Washing Cars

Things have been very busy for Elko High's
Key Club lately. They volunteered at the
Buckaroo Breakfast over Labor Day weekend,
worked at concession stands for two football
games, and volunteered at the Morroders Car
Club Breakfast. Elko is very happy to finally
have boy members in the club; I've been told
by several Kiwanis members that this is a rare
occurrence. Over the next two weeks, they’ll
be working at the Fall Festival (making paper
pumpkins for children), and also volunteering
at the Balloon Festival Breakfast. September
is a busy month.
Just like Elko, Lowry is very happy to see
guys show up! Lowry was worrying they’d
have to call it quits if students showed up to
their first meeting on September 8, 2011.
They had a taco night, that night (raised
funds for Fall Rally) and they were surprised
new, potential members showed up! They are
getting ready for more fundraisers for Fall
Rally.
Reminder from D23’s
Leadership Team
With Key Club, school, family, and social
activities going on don’t forget to take a
breather. Take a moment to simply relax.
Try not to feel overwhelmed: have others
help you! Key Club is one large Ohana. As
best stated by Lilo, “'Ohana means family,
family means nobody gets left behind. Or
forgotten.” We are all here for you so use
our support!

Hello Key Clubbers! My name is Lindsey Newman and I am the Executive Assistant of the Key Club
District 23. As you may or may not know, one of our main focuses this year is to raise money for PTP
(Pediatric Trauma Prevention). The Kiwanis Organization has recognized that the number one killer
of children under the age of 14 is unintentional injury and that 90% of these deaths can be
prevented. PTP provides funding to local hospitals for training in the pediatric trauma wings. With
that being said, we need to get started on fundraising! The following list offers creative ideas for all
clubs in the division and there may need to be contact with bigger, local businesses. So, let’s get
started and have fun.
-Our own Cupcake Wars: Teams pay a fee to enter and the winners get cash or other cool prize.
-Bidding for mystery dish: Auction for home-made meals.
-Restaurant percentage: For a day (or longer) a restaurant
can give us 10% off of every meal they serve. Contact local restaurants for
permission.
-Eating contest: hot dogs or pies, contestants pay a fee and the winner gets a prize.
-Photography or art contest
-Baby Pageant contest: mothers love this. To do this, we would have to get a location and lots of
advertising.
-Mini Golfing PGA tour: You could use almost any mini golfing facility in town and have a tourna-
ment. Contact Wild Island, etc.
-Desert tasting: Get your club members to make yummy desserts and get people to pay a fee to
come in and have some tasty treats (bite sized?)
-White Elephant raffle. Have mystery items placed in boxes of various sizes and colors- raffle them
off. Half the fun is seeing what you end up with!
