Term 3 Issue 9 23 September 2016
Monday 10 October is Day 6
Congratulations to
Christian George
Art Person of the Year Te mahi Pukenga Award
for Outstanding Achievement in the Arts
&
Winner of the
Newman Trophy for Outstanding Contribution to Arts & Culture
Thank you to all involved in the organisation of last night’s fabulous Arts
Awards. A special mention must go to Acting Deputy Principal Margaret
Nightingale who marshals the troops and manages to give the evening a
sense of style combined with a ’BC’ flavour.
What talented students we have, typified by our Guest
Speaker ex student Natalie Braid, currently Deputy Stage
Manager for Opera NZ and working on Sweeney Todd.
She gave an inspiring yet honest message to those
considering the Arts as a career and especially those who
choose to work behind the scenes.
The star of the evening was of course our Te Mahi Pukenga Arts
Person of the Year, Christian George, who also won the
Newman Trophy. A stunning
set of achievements and
contributions saw him as the
final choice amongst a fine list
of nominees.
Well done Christian,
and thank you for your
hard work and total
delight in the Arts over
the last five years.

Year 10 Sports Performance High Ropes and Climbing Trip
Last week, 50 keen Year 10 Sports
Performance students went to the
Birkenhead Leisure Centre to
challenge themselves on the climbing
wall and high ropes course.
The purpose of the trip was to give our
students the opportunity to
demonstrate safe behaviour in outdoor
activities as part of an Internal
Achievement Standard they are
currently doing in class.
The trip was a wonderful success.
Even though the weather was very wet
the students still got stuck in! Every
student challenged and conducted
themselves in an exemplary manner.
Encouragement and support were some of the key factors that contributed to the fantastic experience. Thank you Year 10
Sports performance students you did BC proud! Also a huge thanks to the teachers that came along and gave up their time.
We couldn’t have done it without you!
