Construction is done, people are moving in. But with suites still for sale at James Cooper Mansion, developer Tridel knew that there was still opportunity to showcase its site. And so, several newmodelsuites have been revealed. Since the building pairs an original 1882-built mansion with contempor-ary construction, in-house interior design manager Stella Salvador and her teamwanted to showcasethe same juxtaposition in the models, which they did in the 840-square-foot two-bedroom unit. “Wewanted to inject some traditional andmerge it with the contemporary,” the interior designer says. “Tohave something ultra-slick beside something really traditional.” Themodel plays on contrasts inmoreways than one. Feminine is mixed with masculine (a glass-enclosed chandelier sharing space with atufted tailored sofa). And light is contrasted with dark (sand-toned floors juxtapose against espresso-hued kitchen cabinetry). The result is eclectic. Perfect, Ms. Salvador says, for “someone who appreci-ates living downtown.” Suites at James Cooper Mansion range in size from 760 to 2,515 sq. ft. and inprice from $420,000 to $2.2-million. The sales office is located at 28 Linden St., Toronto, and is openMonday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends and holidays from noon to 6 p.m. Call 416-596-9888 or visit tridel.com.

1 Purchased at Shelter Fur-niture, this grey upholsteredlounge chair that flaunts abrightchrome base echoes the textureof the sofa. “It has a retro feelto it,” the designer says. It alsodoesn’t take up too much space, which is ideal in a condo.
2 There’s something abouta mirrored surface that makes aroom feel twice as special. Thistwo-tiered coffee table fromShelter does more than just that.“Whenever you use mirror, itlivens up a space and expands it,making it feel bigger,” Ms. Salva-dor explains.
3 Sourced fromRoyal Light-ing, this contemporary chan-delier adds sparkle and shine. While it’s a defining featurein the space, it doesn’t call toomuch attention to itself. “It givesa lightness but there’s not muchcolour to it,”Ms. Salvador says.
4Upholstered in a men’s
grey suiting fabric, the tuxedo-style sofa from Stylegarage issleek and contemporary. Thegap between the sofa and thefloor keeps the space lookingairy and the couch from appear-ing heavy, the designer says.
5Chrome-and-wood nest-ing tables fromElte combine thetraditional and contemporaryelements found throughout thesuite. They are particularly con-venient during parties. “Nestingtables are great— the extra tablestores nicely underneath, butcan be pulled outwhen youneedit,”Ms. Salvador says.
6 Sporting sturdy tulipbases, table lamps from Elteflank the sofa and are a counter-point to the fragile and femininechandelier. The ribbing on theshades adds texture to the room.
