“The Eyes of Darkness”, a science fiction novel written by Dean Koontz and
published in 1981. It refers to a biological weapon called ‘Wuhan - 400’.
However, a lot of the books references do match Covid. What do you think?
‘End of Days’ by Sylvia Browne in 2008, claims that a pneumonia like
illness would spread throughout the world.

SPOTLIGHT ON……
Our image
From time to time, we sometimes feel the need for a new image such as maybe a
change of clothes or hairstyle. For the u3a, it’s the new, brand logo.
In striving to raise the profile of the u3a, certain aspects have been given a make
over. The brand name/logo is one of them.
We have several members who have been looking at the selection of logos offered
for u3as to choose from. They are selecting 3 logos which would be ideal for
Newcastle u3a.
These will be sent to you. We are asking you to choose which of the 3 you prefer.
The new logos are user friendly and attractive. The words ‘University of the
Third Age’ do not need to be added and ‘u3a’ does not use capital letters.
Why a new brand? Quote from the Trust
Putting the third age at the heart of the visual
identity, celebrating the 3 as a visual
asset and helping to change the
national perception of ageing
LOOK OUT for the logos when they are sent to you and tell
us which one you prefer.
Monthly meeting: a Brunswick Hall FACE TO FACE, monthly meeting will be held Wednesday 14th October 2-3.00p.m. Bookings will be necessary as numbers will be limited. Group Leaders’ Meeting
Coming up on 30th November!
Zoom tutorial packages
Sharing good practice
and more………
As you know, we have been exploring ways to
reduce costs yet still provide a quality
experience in Newcastle u3a.
We are now planning to use Zoom for future
monthly meetings but what about speakers?
Speakers, who are members of other u3as, do
not charge a fee for other u3as and many have
been found to deliver interesting and
informative talks to us. Also, thanks to
Northumbria Region u3a, we now have a list of
members from the region and across the country
so that our Speakers’ Panel can select those
which they believe will be of special interest
to us.
On November 11th, we have a member from the
NW region to talk to us about her many
experiences when she lived for 4 years in Japan
Want to listen to her stories?
To book a place please refer to October’s and
November’s Newsletters for details

I could not wait to harvest this mini crop of potatoes! I grew them in a small hessian bag and kept topping them up with grass clippings, a little soil and shredded paper. They weighed almost 800grms. Not a great yield but what an achievement! Will definitely aim for a bigger crop next year! Sylvia

Christmas and winter are approaching. Many of us are thinking of long months ahead
especially if we cannot see family and friends as we would like.
If you know of members who could do with some cheering up, maybe you could drop
them a card or phone them. Maybe you could arrange a visit keeping to the government
rules, of course. Even just a few minutes exchange of conversation can work wonders for
us all.
Our support team continues to contact members but more members are needed to do this
vital reaching out.
Keep u3aing!!
