Pools for Prevention
F or Merewether couple Phil and Marie Hewitt it’s two down and 58 to go.
The duo is aiming to raise $60,000 for type 1 diabetes research by swimming
every one of the state’s 60 ocean baths.Mrs Hewitt said her and her husband regularly
swim at Newcastle Ocean Baths and they both wanted to do something to support their rela-tives and the 120,000 Australians living with type 1 diabetes, and so the idea of Pools for Prevention was born.
“We come in to [Newcastle Ocean Baths] and swim everyday and last year we were down here on a beautiful morning and we were watching the sun coming up and Phil said, ‘I wonder how many more ocean pools there are?’,” she said.
“Coincidentally there were 60 so we thought, why don’t we swim them all to celebrate our sixtieth birthdays and we can try and raise $60,000 for diabetes research.”
Their four-month mission will see them each swim a total of 60 kilometres in picturesque pools along the NSW coast, from Eden in the south to Yamba in the north.
They will complete their final swim on May 2 at the Bogey Hole.
Mrs Hewitt encouraged members of the public to get behind the campaign and join in on a swim.
“Anybody who would like to join us, get spon-

Foley up against it in the battle for NSW top jobNew NSW Labor leader, Luke Foley faces a monumental task in becoming the state’s next Premier at the election on March 28.
The reality is that the “score” in terms of seats won at the last election in 2011 was Liberal/National: 69, Labor: 20. Of course, the gap has closed a bit since then with Liberals, Tim Owen and Andrew Cornwell replaced by Labor’s Tim Crakanthorp and Jodie Harrison.
I’m sure many of you reacted by thinking “Luke who?” when Mr Foley was named to take over from John Robertson. I had seen and heard his name on only a few occasions in recent years in his role as a member of the NSW upper house.
I certainly had no idea what he looked like and was quickly onto Google to find out a bit more about the man.
I heard Mr Foley being interviewed on radio station 2HD last week the day after his appointment and he came across as a fairly genuine person.
I realise that all politicians ensure they present themselves to the media in the best possible fashion, but I was glad to hear that the party, under his leadership, would not oppose the Government simply for the sake of doing so.
In fact, he said he agreed with some of the ideas and policies that Premier Mike Baird had
put forward in the past. It will be interested to see how Mr Foley’s relative anonymity is perceived by the voting public.
On one hand, there will be the doubters who don’t know much about him and won’t place their trust in him.
But there is also the advantage of having a clean slate in terms of political drama.
There isn’t anything for the Liberals to latch onto apart from his relative lack of political experience, although he has been in the upper house for almost five years now.
I still think the Liberals will win the elec-tion. It may be a case of too much too soon for Labor, but they should certainly win more than 20 seats this time around.
Let’s hope the current dramas within the Newcastle Jets club can be sorted out quickly.
The departures of CEO, Robbie Middleby and chairman, Ray Baartz certainly caught most people by surprise.
To me, the season has had a strange feel to it. We keep waiting for the Jets to click into gear and develop some potent combinations and discover some attacking spark, but it’s just never seems to materialise.
Perhaps it’s better for local football fans to concentrate to concentrate on the Asian Cup for a while, until the Jets are sorted out.
I certainly had no idea what he looked like

A burglar appears to have been caught on camera, allegedly robbing a Mount Hutton supermarket while decked out
in a fitted Lycra body stocking. Police attached to the Lake Macquarie
Local Area Command last week released CCTV images of the incident, which occurred last month, describing the man pictured as a “‘cat burglar’ look-alike”.
According to police, just before midnight on Monday, December 29, an armed man entered a supermarket on Wilsons Road at Mount Hutton and threatened two employees with a knife.
The Lycra-clad man then fled the scene a short time later, making off with a sum of cash.
No one was injured during the inci-dent.
The man has been described as possi-bly being of Caucasian appearance and was last seen wearing a black Lycra body stocking and black gloves with blue fingertips.

U pper House MP Luke Foley has been endorsed as the new State Opposition Leader, less than three months out from
the March 28 election. Mr Foley was elected unopposed
at a Labor caucus meeting held last Monday, after leadership hopefuls Michael Daley and Steve Whan with-drew from the contest.
In his first speech as leader, Mr Foley said he wanted NSW to be “the great economic powerhouse of Australia”, adding that his key priorities would be to create jobs, invest in hospitals and education, and protect the environ-ment.
“The biggest challenge we face is to ensure that our schools and hospitals keep up with our growing population,” he said.
“I agree with the Premier that we need to invest in infrastructure, but not by cutting funding for schools, hospitals and TAFE.”
Visiting Newcastle last Thursday, Mr Foley also reaffirmed Labor’s commit-ment to retaining the heavy rail line into the CBD.
Liberal candidate for Newcastle Karen Howard criticised this position saying the Opposition did not want to see the city revitalised.
“Labor is in disarray on their position in Newcastle,” she said.
[Newcastle MP] Tim Crakanthorp has pledged to keep the heavy rail line and shows little interest in seeing Newcas-tle revitalised.
“While Labor remains dazed and confused, the Baird Liberal Govern-ment is continuing to deliver on prom-ises of improved connectivity between the CBD and the harbour.”
Mr Foley’s election follows the resig-nation of John Robertson last month amid revelations that he signed a letter on behalf of Sydney siege gunman Man Haron Monis in 2011.
Former Newcastle MP and Labor’s candidate for Strathfield, Jodi McKay has been named Shadow Planning Minister in the party’s reshuffled frontbench, despite not yet having won a seat in the parliament.
Mr Foley described Ms McKay as “incorruptible” and “the perfect person to run [the] state’s planning system”.
Linda Burney will stay on as Deputy Opposition Leader.

Y ear 12 students looking to pursue a career in teaching will need to apply themselves harder than ever in their final year, with
entry standards for education courses set to be bolstered from 2016.
From next year, school leavers entering teaching degrees in NSW will need to achieve at least three band-five results in their Higher School Certificate, including in English, in order to qualify to study.
Students will also have to complete liter-acy and numeracy tests before completing their final in-class professional place-ment and former teachers returning to the profession will have to complete a refresher course.
The changes come off the back of a study from Perth’s Edith Cowan University, which revealed that a large portion of secondary teaching undergraduates across the country were deficient in basic literacy.
Last year, the more than 640 students graduated from teaching degrees at the University of Newcastle, an institution where 96.5 per cent of graduates go on to get jobs as teachers, according to the university’s own data.
achieve a Band 5 in English but nailed their HSC maths test and wanted to be a secondary maths teacher - an area that’s currently facing a shortage of teachers,” he said.
“They will still be able to become a maths teacher but they may have to complete some extra courses to prove they’re uni ready and might be a good teacher and that could take them a little longer than the students who meet that Band 5 English requirement.”
While admitting the changes could have some impact on the overall number of students enrolling in teaching degrees at the University of Newcastle, Professor Fischetti said the university would keep up its commitment to providing alterna-tive pathways for people to commence study.
“Around 20 per cent of the student population who enrol in teaching courses each year already do so through alternate pathways,” he said.
“What we don’t want to be doing is excluding people who are going to be a stellar teacher.
“Those people might just have the potential to be the next great teacher and we don’t want to lose them.”
For more information on the planned changes visit www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au.

C ommuters fear the new school year could bring chaos to Newcastle’s already belea-guered public transport system.
Last week, Hamilton Station reopened as the city’s interim transport terminus, paving the way for early works to begin on the new Wickham interchange.
Shuttle buses have been ferrying passengers between Hamilton and Newcastle stations every 10 minutes during peak periods, an arrangement that has received mixed reviews from commuters.
When the Post spoke to passengers at the station during last Wednesday’s afternoon peak, many raised concerns about the impact the return of students could have on their journey.
Vicki Ryan, who regularly travels from the Central Coast to Wickham for work, said the current transport arrangements had added a combined 40 minutes to her daily commute.
“I give myself a ten minute buffer to make my train but I’m worried that when school starts back and there’s more traffic on the roads I’ll miss it,” she said.
Another Central Coast resident, Rick

TRANSPORT
Back to school could spell chaos
Save Our Rail president Joan Dawson hands information about the rail truncation to commuters outside Hamilton Station
Walton, feared that as school returned and more people were catching trains, services could be delayed.
All of the commuters the Post spoke to had been delayed by the interim changes.
Michael Holt, from Maitland, said commuters were just expected to cop
the inconvenience.“It takes longer to get to where you need
to go now,” he said. “But the Government is going to do
what it wants in the end.” A spokesperson for Transport NSW
said staff would be on hand as students
returned to school and university to provide assistance until customers get used to the new arrangements.
A shuttle bus service will continue to operate between Hamilton and Newcas-tle until the Wickham Transport Inter-change is competed late next year.

V isitors to the Maitland Regional Art Gallery (MRAG) this summer might see some famil-iar faces on the walls.
On Friday the Archibald Prize 2014 Regional Tour will roll into town, exhib-iting all 54 finalists from what is arguably one of the country’s most well-known art prizes.
Among the 54 will be portraits of Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett, AFL footballer and 2014 Australian of the Year Adam Goodes, and musician Nick Cave.
“The Archibald Prize is very accessible for people,” gallery curator, Kim Blunt said.
“People can be very opinionated which is very appreciated.”
This is the second time MRAG will have hosted the regional tour, an exhibition three years in the planning.
Ms Blunt said that working so far ahead without knowing the size of an exhibi-tion made it difficult to fit everything in.
“This is the largest touring show of the Archibald,” she said.
“Some galleries can’t show it all but we will be.”

Man bashed to death in CardiffA man has been charged with murder after
an assault in a backyard at Cardiff on Friday.About 5pm a man was visiting his elderly
mother at her house in Main Road, Cardiff when an argument occurred between the 57-year-old and a 50-year-old neighbour.
The 50-year-old man entered the backyard and allegedly assaulted the 57-year-old, punching and kicking him to his face and body, before returning to his house. A friend took the 57-year-old to Maitland Hospital where he died. Police were called and a crime scene was established.
At 10.20pm a 50-year-old man was arrested at his home in Cardiff and taken to Charlestown Police Station. He was charged with murder and appeared in Newcastle Local Court on Saturday.
disqualified from driving until 2029.The driver was taken to Toronto Police
Station where he was charged with police pursuit not stop drive recklessly (Skye’s Law), drive whilst disqualified, possess prohibited drug, shoplifting, and resist arrest. He was bail refused and appeared at Toronto Local Court on Friday.
Police assaulted in NewcastleA 29-year-old man has been charged after
an incident in which two police officers were allegedly assaulted on Saturday morning in Newcastle. About 3.50am, police were speaking with the occupants of a vehicle in King Street on an unrelated matter. A witness approached the two police officers and pointed towards a man who was allegedly standing outside a nearby fast-food outlet, exposing himself and swearing at passers-by. The constables spoke with the man and asked him to stop swearing several times. The man ignored the requests and the officers gave him a move-along direction. Police will allege the man also ignored the direction and was placed under arrest. The man resisted and ran from police. When police caught up with the man he allegedly threw multiple punches at the male officer but was taken to the ground. The male constable was then allegedly kicked by the man and the female officer also assaulted. The man was brought under control and conveyed to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with assault police (x2), resist police and offensive language. The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court next month.
Pursuit ends with charges laidA man has been charged following a police
pursuit in Teralba last Thursday.About 8.30pm police from Lake Macquarie
Local Area Command attempted to stop a white Toyota Hilux on Anzac Parade, Teralba, that was seen allegedly driving erratically.
The driver, a 34-year-old Tighes Hill man, allegedly failed to stop and a pursuit was commenced. The vehicle was pursued into Creek Reserve Road, Boolaroo, a dead-end street, where it stopped and the driver was arrested after allegedly resisting. During a search of the vehicle police found and seized a number of items allegedly stolen from a store in Glendale earlier in the evening as wellas cannabis.
Further enquiries revealed the driver to be

FREE QUOTE WITH NO OBLIGATIONCALL RELIANCE ROOF RESTORATION ON 1300 300 748 FOR A QUOTE.
YOU’LL BE PLACED UNDER ABSOLUTELY NO OBLIGATION AND IT’S FREE.
The Shocking Truth About Roof RestorationIf you’ve ever been concerned about the condition of your roof, then this could be the most important article you read this year.
Unscrupulous roof restoration salespeople have been telling unsuspecting homeowners that they need a full roof restoration (clean, repair, re-point, seal, and paint) when in many cases all that they needs is a simple repair.
This has been going on for years but in recent times has reached epidemic levels. Here’s what typically happens...
A telemarketer or door-to-door canvasser offers you a free roof inspection. Sounds like a good idea right..?
It is a good idea unless the roof inspector (usually a salesperson) does what unfortunately happens in many of these instances: he or she will grossly exaggerate the problems and insist that you really need a full roof restoration when perhaps you don’t.
Now there are many instances where a roof restoration is
But there are also many instances where all you many need is a simple roof repair. Local company Reliance Roof Restoration offer a
free roof safely inspection where you get the option of actually seeing your roof close up. Any problems are actually pointed out to you.
That way, you can be certain that any problems they advise you of are real and not made up or exaggerated. You can either accompany the inspector on the roof, or if you’re unable to do that, you’ll be shown photos taken on a high resolution digital camera.
will advise you of that. If all that you need is a small repair, then Reliance will advise you of that.
would be happy to provide a quote for this service. If you would like a quote on having your roof restored, you’ll get $600 off the quote if you call by next Monday. By the way, you’ll be placed under absolutely no obligation whatsoever and this service is free for anyone with a home that’s over 12 years in age.
Here’s what one satisfied client said of their experience in dealing with Reliance Roof Restoration:
“A professional approach by all associated with the job. I was impressed with your attention to detail and advice on other (small) problems. Follow-up
inspection and after job touch-up work was particularly impressive.
The friendly nature of all the workers made them a pleasure to deal with. I would have no hesitation in recommending ‘Reliance Roof Restoration’ to anyone
wanting their roof restored.” Ken Durham

Researchers are seeking participants for new diabetes study Image: HMRI
R esearchers from the Clinical Nutrition Research Centre at the University of Newcastle are seek-ing people with type 2 diabetes to
take part in a world-first study. The study aims to investigate the impact
of resveratrol, a naturally-occurring nutri-ent found in grapes, red wine and choco-late, can have on blood flow in the brain.
According to study leader, Professor Peter Howe, from the Hunter Medical Research Institute’s Cardiovascular Research Program, people with diabetes can be at greater risk of mental impairment.
“We know that diabetics are at greater risk of cardiovascular disease but in recent times it’s become apparent that they also tend to have accelerated, age-related cognitive decline,” he said.
“In other words, their ability to perform certain mental tasks deteriorates more rapidly than it might in otherwise healthy people, which can also predispose them to harmful situations like falls where their reaction time is slower.”
The research team is seeking men and post-menopausal women, aged between 40 and 80 years, who have type 2 diabetes but do not require insulin therapy, to take

a new nutritional supplement designed to stimulate blood flow.
Study participants will take four differ-ent doses of the supplement throughout the study, and at the same time perform computerised and verbal cognitive tests
while wearing a non-invasive ultrasound headpiece that measures circulation in real time.
“Preventative strategies are vitally important for an aging populating and we hope to demonstrate that we can improve
blood vessel function and also improve cognitive performance,” Professor Howe said.
If you are interested in taking part in the study, contact 4921 8616 or email [email protected] for more information.
The heavy rail line into Newcastle’s CBD may still be intact thanks to a Supreme Court injunction, but the NSW Govern-ment is getting on with its plans to connect the city and the harbour with work to begin from this week on five
temporary pedestrian access points across the rail corridor between Wick-ham and Newcastle East. The connec-tions, to open by March, will be built at Steel Street, Kuwumi Place, Worth Place, Perkins Street and Wolfe Street.

Work begins on new rail crossings
Happy New Year, Newcastle! After a fantastic family-friendly celebration at Honeysuckle for New Year’s Eve, we have arrived in 2015. While the fireworks may be over and the Christmas decorations put away, keep the festive spirit by taking the family out for a moonlight walk to see some bright new additions to Civic Park.
Colourful round globes of light have been strung throughout the park as just one element of the city’s Lighting Improve-ment Project, adding a fun and playful aspect to the park’s night-time scenery. Fully programmable for colour, the temporary lighting will help improve activation and safety in the city centre. We want to improve lighting across the CBD as part of city centre revitalisation and this lighting could be relocated to activate other areas of the city in the future.
We hope to hear back from you with community feedback on the lights as well as locations and suggestions for lighting activation in other areas across the city.
The Lighting Improvement Project has four key components.Light as Art - This multifaceted project involves the instal-
lation of artistic or interpretive lighting throughout the city to improve activation and safety, including the Night Owls lighting design competition last year.
People scale lighting - This project aims to engage building and shop owners with the installation of specialised lighting, bringing light closer to where pedestrians actually need it rather than being solely focused on the needs of vehicles.
Shopfront lighting - This is a potential joint venture project with Newcastle NOW to assist business owners with improv-ing lighting for their shopfronts.
Building uplighting - This project aims to improve the uplighting of prominent buildings and monuments in the city centre to create more visual attractiveness.
All of these projects will bring unique and improved lighting to the city centre and have a positive impact on efforts related to revitalisation, safety and public space activation.

2015 is another exciting year for our City. Work is set to progress on the Lake Macquarie Transport Interchange, a major regional infrastructure project with potential to unlock significant growth for the Lower Hunter and improve accessibility, while the roll out of the National Broadband Network to most areas of Lake Macquarie is due to be completed by mid-year.
Both infrastructure projects come on top of Council providing good quality daily services that our 200,000 residents expect and rely on.
Engaging our community in planning is also one of the core functions of Council. This year we will continue our work with residents and stakeholders to identify potential climate change adaptation options for Belmont South and Marks Point as well as develop streetscape master plans for Swansea and Mount Hutton in close consultation with these communities.
Meeting the diverse needs of our community is an ongoing challenge, and in 2015, we will begin to roll out the priorities and actions to meet the needs of these two key demograph-ics as identified in our Ageing Population and Youth strate-gies.
Looking forward, we will continue to extend and connect our cycleways, shared pathways and footpaths, and improve access to public transport as well as maintain and upgrade our parks, reserves and playgrounds for all to share and enjoy.
Next week, as part of our local Australia Day celebra-tions, we will recognise those who have made outstanding contributions to our City. The Lake Macquarie Australia Day Awards are an opportunity to hear and share stories of efforts made by individuals and groups for the benefit of others. All of the nominees are of a high standard, and it is very humbling to learn about and hear of the inspired, dedicated and selfless work of our community members.

S un-seekers may have seen dolphins on Blacksmiths Beach over the weekend but they certainly weren’t the usual sea-
dwelling kind. World champion sand sculptor Dennis
“Sandman” Massoud visited the beach on Saturday afternoon, hosting a sculpt-ing workshop as part of Lake Macquarie City Council’s inaugural Blacksmiths Sand Sculpture competition.
Isla and Ainsley Hobbins took out the youth team category with their crocodile design.
Belinda, Elle and James Player wowed in the family section with their sea turtle, while Ella Duncan showed individual skill sculpting her way to victory in the open team section.
Part of its Explore Our Great Outdoors program, Council’s sustainability manager, Alice Howe said the event was all about encouraging people of all ages to get outdoors and explore the lake’s natural environments.

T he first game in a full round of Twenty 20 games to take place over the next two weeks was played at No 1 Sportsground on
Friday evening when University defeated Belmont.
Batting first, Belmont struggled for the most part eventually making 7 for 101 at the end of their 20 overs.
James Maloney took 4 for 20 for the Sea Dragons.
Despite starting shakily to be 3 for 29, Jesse Major scored 32 not out featuring in two partnerships with Matt Gawthrop and Daniel Odd to see University home with more than two overs to spare.
There is more T20 action this week at the No 1 Sportsground on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings from 5pm.
In the full round of one-day games on Saturday, Newcastle City provided the upset of the season defeating Merewether by one wicket in a thrilling finish at No 1 Sportsground.
Chasing Merewether’s 205, all appeared lost for City when last man in Rhys Gallen

Maloney the star as University defeat Belmont in first round of competition
joined Englishman Mat Hunn with the score at 118.
But Gallen with 36 and Hunn with 45 saw the Sabres home for an unlikely victory.
Another last-wicket quest for victory just fell short at Lynn Oval where Wallsend managed to defend 147 against Stockton.
Benn West and Bryan Warren put on 38
runs for the last wicket but when victory appeared likely West was bowled it left the Seagulls three runs short.
Liam Taylor took 5 wickets for the Tigers.Wests prevailed in a bottom of the ladder
clash against Waratah in an even contest.Scott Mackenzie continued his good
form for the Tahs with another half century in their 212.
Aaron Wivell with 90 and Lorne Burns with 66 scored quickly as Wests passed the total with 14 overs and four wickets to spare.
Skipper Josh Trappel with 45 not out was the only batsman to come to terms with the conditions in a low scoring win for Hamilton Wickham against University.
Trappel made 45 not out as Hamwicks lost five wickets chasing University’s small total of 90.
Cardiff Boolaroo’s season hit a new low when all out for 49 against Belmont.
Belmont took less than seven overs to secure victory.

A ny inept buffoon will tell you that 15 doesn’t go into seven, but for Mollie Gray it's an equation that has her storming into calculation for an
appearance at the 2016 Olympic Games. After making her Wallaroo debut last year in
the 15-a-side format, Gray has earned further recognition for her tireless work ethic and apti-tude, receiving a contract to join the Australian Women’s Sevens rugby union program.
All contracted Sevens players are enlisted as fulltime paid professional athletes and play in a multitude of tournaments throughout the year, as opposed to the longer format whereby the playing group comes together every three years to partake in the World Cup.
With merely 20 contracts awarded annually and the enticement of representing her coun-try at the Rio Olympics and Commonwealth Games (2018), Gray is brimming with excite-ment at the opportunity.
The Farley resident is well-versed when it comes to competing at such imposing tourna-ments, having worn the green and gold at the 2014 World Cup in France.
A testament to hard work
Farley's Mollie Gray has been rewarded with an Australian Women's Sevens contract
Local rugby star ready to take on the world after extensive rehabilitation program
It was during this tournament that the loose-forward sustained a grade three medial cruci-ate ligament injury.
“I’m over the moon about it, I think its awesome,” Gray said.
“Sevens was the big focus and I rehabbed so hard and put in so much time and I was just 100 percent dedicated to it, because getting the Sevens contract was what I wanted and what I had been looking at for a while now.”
LUKE HISLOP Her unrelenting training ethic and applica-
tion has seen her make a speedy return to full fitness and back pumping iron in a major way.
“One week I’m squatting a 20kg bar, a week later I’m squatting 70kg, and now I’m squat-ting over 100kg, so we’ve pushed it to the limit,” she said.
“The gym work I’ve been doing over the last four to five months has being insane, hard and horrible, but I’ve loved every second of it, I haven’t missed a day, I’m up at the crack of dawn and I just love it, it's a lot of fun.
“I’ve always loved training, it's so great to push yourself because in the end it all pays off.”
The frequent-flyer points will certainly be accrued during the next few months as the team contests the IRB Women’s Sevens World Series.
Now in its third year, the series enacts as part of the Olympic qualification process, with the top four countries earning automatic qualifica-tion for Rio.
In February the tournament heads to Brazil, then onto North America in March with trips to Atlanta in the USA and Vancouver in Canada (April).
The series culminates in Europe, with visits to London and Amsterdam in May.

WORLD OF DANCE AND PERFORMING ARTS
Australian Dance & Talent Centre (ADTC) is a purpose-built performing arts facility operat-
ing in Torrens Avenue, Cardiff. What sets ADTC apart from the multi-
tude of dance and vocal schools across Newcastle is that they offer tuition for all ages and abilities across the full range of the performing arts under one roof; including dance, singing, drama, guitar, piano and drums.
In 2014, this locally-owned business made its mark globally when principal Jade Hillard and dance teacher Steve Chandler were appointed as choreogra-phers for the Opening Ceremony of the International Children’s Games.
A number of ADTC students were selected to perform in this Opening Ceremony, which was streamed around the world via the internet. Miss Hillard
was exceptionally proud of everyone involved. “To have the achievements of our staff and students recognised by being invited to participate in the International Children’s Games was a huge thrill and a testament to the dedi-cation of our teaching staff,” she said.
While ADTC staff take pride in the success of their outstanding students, the proudest moments are when watching young students take their first steps in dance and music. “Noth-ing brings a bigger smile to my face than seeing a three-year-old sing and dance on stage for the first time,” Miss Hillard said.
For more information about ADTC, go to www.australiandance.com.au or visit the facility on one of their open days: January 17th from 10am-2pm and January 22nd 4:30pm-7pm.

WORLD OF DANCE AND PERFORMING ARTS
Since 1989, Classrooms Around The World (CATW) has special-ised in international group tours,
excursions and programs for school groups (primary and secondary), dance and performing arts companies, sports clubs and other special interest groups.
Our tours and programs are not some-thing found in travel brochures. They are specifically designed and tailored with a major educational component, themed to include whatever you like.
Using our global network, we take care of all travel sectors; customise flight itineraries and airfares at the lowest available price; make all appropriate hotel bookings (we don’t do hostels and backpacker accommodation); arrange transfers, transport schedules, admis-sions and reservations to your key tour components.
We also book specialist presenters and tour guides; organise and conduct your customised tour; book workshops and classes with topic specific profes-sional tutors and instructors. Our tours include tour and travel consultation; your choice of local, national, interna-tional and multi-destinational tours; airfares; private coach and rail travel; guided sightseeing, visits and tours.
We organise unbeatable family
friendly accommodation (you choose twin/triple/quad share); your very own guides, tour conductors and interpret-ers; daily breakfasts (and other meals included if you wish); exclusive classes and workshops; all reservations and bookings; entry fees to museums, galleries cultural, historic and special interest sites; major attractions and sightseeing; recreation and leisure time; all taxes fees and gratuities.
Our tour costs and fees are based on the number of participants in a tour group. The average size of a CATW tour group is 50. However, we’ve taken groups to all corners of the globe with student numbers as small as 30.
“At CATW we love looking after all of our passengers. We want to make sure your CATW experience is amazing and completely stress-free. From the moment you first contact us, to the moment you set foot back in Australia,” Jim Bennett, Managing Director CATW, said.
Travel with us and you’ll experience unparalleled service. Knowledgeable and experienced CATW coordinators will ensure your tour is one of discov-ery, as you experience more than you dreamed. Tell us where you want to visit and let us start planning.
