Voice of the President Dear Members,
It has begun. A good number of people were on hand on Nov.
11th to ring in the 2016-2017 Fasching season. Good food, good
friends, and good music by Walter Kirsch got us all in the mood
for this festive season. The official opening of Fasching was fol-
lowed by the Opening Ball during which the new Prince and Prin-
cess of Fools were crowned. Steve Borbas and Carolyn Gonzales
will reign over the 2016-2017 Fasching season, and will represent
us at GAMGA in January. Congratulations to Steve and Carolyn.
Thanks to the Blemels for providing the evening meal, and thank
you to our Prinzengarde for performing that evening . It’s always
good to see our youth participating in and carrying on German
traditions. Please continue to come out and support your El Fer-
rat, the Prince and Princess, and the Prinzengarde thru out this
Fasching season.
I want to back up a bit and thank those who helped make our joint
GAC/IAS Halloween party such a success. Thanks to Norita Cal-
lahan, Rosemarie Keating, and Sheri Kraemer for the “frightful”
decorations in the bar and the ballroom, and to Madie Mirabal for
decorating the tables. It was so good to see so many in costumes.
Thanks to all who attended.
Our general membership/election/club picnic turned out well. The
weather was beautiful and everyone seemed to enjoy the relaxed
atmosphere. Thanks to all those who helped count the ballots for
the election. Election results: Pres.- Miguel Mata; Vice Pres.-
Mark Meadows; Secretary - Kathy Wilds; Financial Dir. - Chris-
tine Philips; Board of Directors - Jay Vandersloot, Steve Borbas,
Walter Kirsch, John Waldrop, and Rosalie Pfeiffer. Congratula-
tions to all.
December will be a busy month at the club. On Dec. 3rd is Royal
Ball w/Jim Brauer; Dec. 5th is the children’s St. Nicklaus party
4
Kaffeeklatsch
No kaffeeklatsch in December.
hosted by Alexandra Mirabal; Dec. 17th is our club Christmas
party w/Street Scene back by popular demand; and,to round out
the month and the year, we have our New Year’s Eve celebration
w/Showcase returning on Dec. 31st.
At 4:30 on Dec. 5th, we will begin selling New Year’s Eve tick-
ets. Remember this is the only time that you may reserve a seat or
table. Tickets are $40 w/meal and $25 w/o meal. The $40 ticket
includes the door fee, the meal, a champagne toast, and a light
breakfast. The $25 ticket includes everything except the dinner
meal. It’s first come, first served on reserving tables and seats, so
get your tickets early.
In case you haven’t noticed, bartenders Randy and Ryne are no
longer with us. Unfortunately, due to responsibilities to their main
jobs, both needed to resign. Randy was with us for many years
and leaves some pretty big shoes to fill. Though Ryne wasn’t with
us that long, he, too, leaves a big hole to fill. They will both be
greatly missed, but we have found two new bartenders to fill the
void. Please welcome Gabriel and Caitlyn to our GAC family.
Give them your support as they learn the ins and outs of our bar
and club. Luckily, we still have Annie and Alicia also serving us
in the bar and helping with the transition.
Well, I’ve gone on long enough. Hope I’ve covered everything.
Have a joyous holiday season, and I’ll see you at the club.

Dear Edelweiss Friends….Thank you all for your calls, visits and
cards and well wishes during my surgery and recovery these past
few months. Your kind thoughts and prayers have helped me to
a speedy recovery...and I hope to be dancing again soon.
Love, Liesel Lopez
Note from the Finance Director:
I am presenting an annual report this month so we can see ex-
actly what shape the club is in. If there are any questions, please
contact Christine Philips
(Editor’s Note) The report was too large to be included in this
month’s magazine. If you wish to see the report, please send a
request to [email protected]

were able to raise $525 with the goodwill fundraiser and another

cial thanks to the Irish American society members who also took
part in donating to us.

Cigar Evening Maker’s and Macanudo
Friday December 30th
4pm—7pm Bring your favorite cigar (BYOC)
and enjoy your favorite bourbon or whiskey on this relaxing evening.
This month we will gather at 6:30pm on the second Wednes-
day, December 14th for our monthly Essen und Sprechen Tref-
fen (gathering) at Paisano's Italian Restaurant, 1935 Eubank
Blvd, Albuquerque (east side of Eubank, slightly north of Indian
School Rd). Come join together at the monthly Essen und Spre-
chen to practice your German and socialize over dinner in Ger-
man (with some English). We decide at each month’s dinner
where to go the following month.
Please, PLEASE, reply by the prior Sunday, December
11th, to Jay by email to [email protected] or call at
505-362-1733 to let us know whether you will be there, so we
will know how large of a table to reserve. The Essen und Spre-
chen dinner is quite popular—attendance usually ranges 12-18
people, with our all-time high having been 28 in attendance. In
November we had 17 in attendance.
(The Essen und Sprechen monthly dinner group is not
affiliated with the GAC; rather it is a separate, autonomous
group. This notice is provided for the convenience of anyone
who may wish to attend).
