Gallery VisitsStudents visit local galleries both online and in person throughout the year to enhance their understanding of viewing art. Students visit and local galleries including The Box Factory for the Arts and the Krasl Art Center. Other galleries we have visited in the past are the Fredrick Meijer Gardens, ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, and the Snite Museum of Art on Notre Dame’s campus.

Student ShowsStudents are required to exhibit their art publicly. Local shows include Berrien County Student Art Show every March at the Box Factory for the Arts and Whirlpool Technology Meets the Arts show in the fall. High school students are encouraged to enter the Scholastic Art and writing competitions as well.

Ancient to Modern Art HistoryStudents study many different periods in art during Middle School. Students reflect on historical work to influence their own art styles while working toward finding their artistic voice.

In High School, students are given more freedom in their creative endeavors, but continue to study famous artists throughout the centuries. Upper level students are focused on pursuing their creativity while improving their skills with various media.

LMC Visual ArtsHIGH SCHOOLVisual Art is available for all students in high school. Successful completion of this year long course will result in 1 earned Fine Arts credit.

The elements and principles of design are the basic core upon which the Art Program is developed. Each level of Art is built upon the previous year of study. Students are able to use a wide variety of materials in the areas of Calligraphy, Drawing, Acrylic Painting, Oil Painting (Advanced), Graphic Design, Computer Art, Fractals, Collage, Colored Pencil Drawing and many other artistic endeavors.

High School Honors Art is also taught for students who have a high level of interest and wish to pursue art as a career. Ms. Styx has assisted students in portfolio presentations, art scholarships, and creating students’ cohesive body of work.

MIDDLE SCHOOLArt is offered for students in grades 6, 7, and 8. Middle School Art class meets daily for students to fully develop their skills and talent.

Students learn the rudiments of drawing, and painting in tempera and watercolor. They will construct simple dimensional art works. Color theory will be explored and used after tints, tones and shades are mastered.

Harmonies such as: Complementary, Monochromatic, and Analogous will be taught. Eighth graders will learn calligraphy. Many of the drawing and painting projects are tied to teaching across the curriculum.

TESTIMONIALS

facebook.com/LMCSchools • twitter.com/@LMCLakers • instagram.com/@lakemichigancatholicschools • www.lmclakers.org • (269) 983-2511

“I would still go there to this day and I sent my son to LMC because I believe in what they teach and what they believe in. You would not find that anywhere else… you could not find a better education with teachers who really cared. I would not change my school experience, I might not have been the best student but LMC made me the man I am today.”- Jimmy Etter, LMC Graduate

“Lake Michigan Catholic has been a perfect place for my sons. That was never so evident as when my youngest son was injured playing football and he had to miss quite a bit of school. The teachers and staff were supportive and so helpful. He was able to recover more easily because of the wonderful LMC family.”– Michelle Agay, LMC Parent

“Other than my family, LMC was the place that gave me the confidence to try new things, opportunities to get involved, and to share of my time and talents with those in need. Through the teachers and fellow students, LMC helped build a foundation of finding balance in life – that you can nourish your mind (through studies), your body (sports and other activities), as well as your spirit through your faith, and that I am happiest with life when I can maintain that type of balance. My sense of home and community was fostered by my LMC schooling, and some of my most dear friends are my schoolmates from LMC even today 30 years later.”– The Honorable Donna (Bacolor) Howard, LMC Graduate and Parent

“LMC develops each student’s talents and creates “servant leaders”. Faith, service, and helping your neighbor are instilled each step of the way. What I learned as an LMC student has made me a better parent, a better teacher and a well rounded legislator.”– Michigan House Representative Kimberly LaSata, LMC Graduate and Parent

“Lake Michigan Catholic Schools taught me the fundamentals and gave me the well-roundedness to succeed in University of Michigan’s LSA program. This solid educational basis allowed for me to explore – and ultimately discover – the right major for not only my strengths, but my passions.”– Kathryn Allen, LMC Graduate

“Lake Michigan Catholic Schools has prepared me academically for college. My favorite classes were Physics and Chemistry with Mrs. Nuter. The staff included teachers who are friendly and approachable, and made the subjects interesting.”– Nathan Glotzbach, 2015 LMC Graduate

“Lake Michigan Catholic Schools are a wonderful place for children to learn and grow not only in their education but in their faith. My husband and I are graduates, our two children are graduates and now our granddaughter is attending! Go Lakers!”-Julie Holbert, LMC Parent and Grandparent
