Dear fellow laborers in the vineyard of the Lord,

This Sunday’s readings challenge us to seek the ways of the Lord in all things and to conduct ourselves in a

way worthy of the gospel of Christ. In the parable of the Laborers in the Vineyard, God is beckoning us to be

generous to all.

That does not seem too difficult of a task, does it? But in our own humanity, how many times have we

questioned God's compassion and merciful love to others? Do we dare admit we have envied his generosity to

our friends, family or colleagues? If we are being totally honest with ourselves, we might even perceive our

own antipathy towards others who have been lavished in God’s graciousness. Have you ever thought or said

the following: Are you kidding me? What has she done to deserve that? I have been here longer, I have

worked harder than him, there is no way possible, I don’t understand, why not me?

God's benevolence transcends our limited understanding. He is kind and merciful, not because we deserve it

but because of his infinite goodness.

The readings are calling us to seek God in all things, to be generous to all and in doing so, we will conduct

ourselves in a way worthy of the gospel of Christ.

So, as we embark on a new week, let us be mindful of seeking God in all encounters of our day. Let us ask

Him to align our thoughts and actions with His thoughts and actions.

May we seek justice for all and be more charitable with our gifts and resources; especially with those who turn

to us at the last hour as well as the laborers who have toiled in the vineyard more than their fair share.

God, we humbly ask you to help us turn our ways into your ways.

Amen.

Fr. Sebastian

Guidelines for attending Mass:

If you are healthy, go to Mass to hear God’s Word with your brothers and sisters in the faith and

receive the Lord Jesus in the Eucharist. But if you fear that going to Mass could be dangerous to you or

others, remember that the obligation to go to Sunday Mass remains suspended.

You MUST wear a mask during the entire Mass, only briefly adjusting to receive Communion.

You will be directed to fill the church from the front to the back, and be excused from Mass from the back to the front.

Everyone please process up for communion. If you choose not to receive, simply cross your arms across your body. This prevents others from climbing over you as they move through the pew.

After receiving Communion, please step to the side (6 ft away from Fr, place is marked) before lifting mask to consume the Holy Eucharist.

Maintain a 6ft distance from others, when entering, during and when leaving Mass.

Hand sanitizer will be applied to your hands upon entering and leaving the church.

Please do not linger, congregate in the back of the church, or parking lot before or after Mass.

Please be patient and kind. This is new for everyone and our volunteers are trying to keep everyone safe.

Still not sure what to do?? Check out this video on www.dwc.org

Special Collection for disaster relief

“Most Rev. Mark Brennan, Bishop of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, has approved a special

collection to be held the weekend of September 19-20 in all parishes and missions throughout the diocese

to support recovery efforts related to the recent natural disasters that have occurred across the country (US

Gulf hurricanes and the western wildfires) as well as the devastating explosion that occurred in Beirut,

Lebanon.

Proceeds from this collection will support the humanitarian and recovery efforts of Catholic Charities USA

and Catholic Relief Services and will provide pastoral support and rebuilding assistance to impacted

dioceses through the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

As we hold the victims and first responders in our prayers during these critical days, let us also spend time

in prayer and discernment as we prepare for this upcoming collection. Let us come together now to support

our brothers and sisters in Christ who are suffering this horrible loss.

Please remember in prayer those who have lost their lives as a result of these disasters, as well as all those

who are injured and lost their homes, cars, employment, access to food and water and to those who remain

without electricity or are stranded.”

Please make checks payable parish/mission and on the memo line indicate: Special Collection for disaster relief.

The flowers for the altar were donated by John and Angie

Genovesi in loving memory of Mary and Sam Genovesi

and deceased members of the Disibbio and Aker’s

families.

We extend our deepest sympathy to Sharon Rothausen

on the death of her sister, Cindy Rothausen-

Quackenbush who passed away on September 9th. May

our Lord comfort and send her peace to all who mourn

and may Cindy rest eternally in the arms of Jesus, and

in the company of all the angels and saints.

Faith Formation 2020—2021

I received from the Lord what I handed on to you.

The 2020 Catechetical Sunday theme is taken from St. Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, “I Received from the Lord what I

also Handed on to You.” The theme focuses on the primary substance of catechesis, which is an invitation to a whole new life

given by Christ Himself. It emphasizes that living faith necessitates movement, inspiring all those who hear the Word to share

it as witnesses of the true and living God. Sacred Heart will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on October 4, 2020. Those who

the Church Community has designated to serve as catechists will have their names called out during Mass. Catechetical Sunday

is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith. Though our Faith Formation will be

handled differently this year by zoom meetings, please keep all in prayer as we navigate through this time until we can return

to the school building again.

The RCIA Team is seeking individuals interested in joining the Catholic faith. Come on a journey with us to Catholicism. The

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is the process for welcoming new members. Our first Inquiry Session will be

Wednesday, September 23 at 5pm in the church building. Come into the sanctuary and the team will meet you there. Social

distancing and wearing a facial covering will be observed. If you know someone who may want to start the process this fall,

please give their name to Claire Lampert at 304-921-2455 or Julia Harrison at 304-327-5623.
