NRC Graduates

After two years of being an NRC member, you “graduate” to become a graduate member. At this stage you have the option to join the Cape Coral Social Club.

You are strongly encouraged to continue to attend all NRC meetings, activities and events, and your group activities with other Club members. As a graduate, you will continue to receive email updates on all the NRC happenings. You may opt out of receiving these emails by updating your preferences at our website: [email protected].

More information about graduates joining the Cape Coral Social Club can be found at www.capecoralsocialclub.org

NRC supports programs such as the Cape Caring Center and Onesight

Just a reminder that the New Resident Club has a continuous giving program, which collects canned goods and non-perishables for the Cape Coral Caring Center for distribution to those in need. Please drop your donations in the box at the Yacht Club.

Also, please bring used eye-glasses to the NRC monthly meeting - a Gift of Sight box is provided on the activities table for your donation.

All donations will be taken to the respective centers for distribution.

January 2013 : Aquaholics

Reporter: Donna Clark

Laura and Jim Kessler, Mary Lusis, Janice Taub, Donna Clark, Bill Terry and Paula Russell attended the monthly NRC general meeting December 2nd. Janice, Laura and Mary were all door prize winners. Todd and Paula Russell, Donna Clark and Bill Terry, Novelle and Paul Pallanich, and Jeanne and Steve Geribo attended the monthly dinner/dance. Todd won a gift certificate. The Aquaholics continue to have a good attendance at most of the NRC offerings.

Our snowbirds are collecting in Paradise and the pelicans are welcoming them back with open arms. The Russell’s returned by boat this season and had a good group of Aquaholics waiting on their dock to catch their lines. Janice and Dave Taub hosted the monthly potluck amongst beautiful Christmas decorations in their home. We had a gift exchange that brought many laughs as well as ooh ahhs. The Bunco ladies enjoyed gaming at Janet’s beautiful home. Linda Paganuchhi had the most wins, Jeanne Geribo had the most losses, and Donna Clark had the most Buncos. A good group of Aquaholic guys met at Bill Terry’s house to play pool and eat pizza while the ladies were at Bunco. Another group of men are going to the Race Track in Bonita Springs to try their hand at betting while munching away on $1 hotdogs and $1 beers. Finally, Donna and Bill are having a group in for dinner at their house on Christmas day. There’s plenty to do in our group. Anyone not participating is missing out on a lot of good times and camaraderie.

The Aquaholics will graduate at the January 2015 meeting and celebrate with a luncheon at Rumrunners. We’ve decided as a group, we have had so much fun and made such strong friendships, our group meetings, potlucks and activities will continue ad infinitum.

Paradise wouldn’t be as much fun without each and every one of us playing together as well as supporting each other through life’s celebrations and crises. A huge thank you to the NRC for bringing us together and helping us develop the Aquaholics. You will continue to see us at the general meeting, Ladies Luncheon, Monthly Dinner/Dance and was well as other NRC activities

June/July 2013: Knotty Nauticals Reporter: Evelyn Ferguson

About Town News this month included twelve Knotty's at The Italian American Club for a most unusual evening - Drag Queen Bingo. On a much smaller scale, a few of us explored the annual holiday festival of Lights in downtown Cape Coral. During the evening, the "explorers" ran into several NRC friends they knew.

Out of Town News this month included two cruises. The Ehret's went on a riverboat cruise and the Dugener's went on a Caribbean cruise. On a much sadder note - our dear friend Diana flew to Texas to be with family after the unexpected loss of her younger sister.

Fifteen Knotty's attended our December Holiday Pot Luck hosted by the Carmack's. We enjoyed Ham and Turkey and a White Elephant Gift Exchange. Knotty's were thrilled that the Dugener's and the Schonek's in attendance at the Paradise Gala Celebration.

Our "Caring for Others" award this month goes to the Carmack's, They handled the Dinner/Dance Raffle so Joyce W and Danny could enjoyed time with family visiting from out-of-town.

Our hope is for all to have a healthy and happy New Year!

October 2013: Partying Pirates Reporter: Fran Orphal

Another fun, fun, fun month for the Partying Pirates. Our planners and our

crew work to make our group really special. The Pirates started off December by attending the Edison & Ford Holiday Nights where historic buildings and acres of gardens were decorated with lights and traditional decorations. On the 9th the Pirate Ladies gathered together for a fun Luncheon at Cass Cay Restaurant at Burnt Store Marina. On the 12th dinner out at the Carrabba’s Italian Grill and on the 13th the Pirates had their monthly Potluck and wore their crazy hats at the home of Ron and Teresa Slotkus. On Dec 22nd Pirates gathered to quench their thirst at Rum Runners. and on the 26th Breakfast @ the Boat House. Two lady pirates attended the NRC ladies luncheon.

Ho Ho! Home! It is great to begin the holiday season with the

snowbirds flocking back to Cape Coral ~ and could there be any more activities to welcome everyone back? Whew! The Sand Sculpting Championship in Fort Myers was awe inspiring and lunch afterwards at Coconut Jack's was delicious! The Holiday House and lunch at Tarpon Lodge on December 5th was lovely and attended by several of the Transplants. We went to Red's in between lunch and the Holiday House exhibition and had fun getting reacquainted. The NRC Dinner Dance was well attended and a good time was had by all. On December 15th we embarked on the Christmas Lights Canal Cruise out of Punta Gorda and were amazed at how gorgeous everything looks at this time of year ~ and how much effort goes into these displays! (Continued)

Winner, winner, Turkey Dinner” as Guy Fieri of the Food Channel would say after attending the Thanksgiving Themed Dinner at the home of Karen Morris on November 20th. A large number of us brought our favorite traditional and non-traditional dishes. From oven roasted turkey and dressing, sweet potato casserole, pecan pie, to stuffed mush-rooms, strawberry butter, coconut cake and “Christmas Crack” candy; there was much more and, of course, something delicious for everyone. It was a fabulous affair with many interesting and fact-finding conversations which lead us late into the evening. The Socialites kicked off December celebrations on the 4th at Bonefish Grill. Great service, great food and great discussions blended together for a harmonious evening. One of our own, Judi Shunk just arrived back from her travels up north on the auto train to Sanford, Florida with minutes to spare. Obviously, our group is committed and we have an amazing bonding integrity that stretches us to the limits. Glad you made it in time, Judi. On December 10th, nine women of the Surfside Socialites gathered for a holiday luncheon at The Island on Cape Coral Parkway. The festive coastal atmosphere of the restaurant added to the fun and the extensive menu made it difficult to choose but one and all settled on seafood entrees. The diners found the cuisine to be inventive and everyone raved about the chicken rice soup with a "kick". If you go, be sure to save room for one of the delicious des-serts! The Island promises to be a great addition to the Cape. It was a great 2014, gang. I know the New Year will be spectacular! See you then.

December 18th was a fun Ladies Luncheon at Rumrunner's and the 22nd was another opportunity for more food ~~ Bev and Gabe opened their home to us for a festive potluck. What a nice array of goodies and their decorations were incredible! Thank you for your gracious hospitality, Bev and Gabe. Some members of our group continue to golf and (again) eat after golfing. So many activities and, fortunately, time to do them. We wish you all a wonderful, food filled holiday! (We can diet in January!)

December 2013: Suns of Beaches Reporter: Linda Halliburton

MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY HANUKKAH & HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Seems like we are still running wide open with NRC activities, pot lucks, holiday luncheons & boat rides. We joined several groups at Sunset Celebration which made it even more fun until sea gulls appeared & took some cheese & cracker right out of Shirley's hand. It even took a chunk of Shirley's finger also. Several of us met at Cocktails on the Cape. We had plenty of room & it was fun to be with other NRC members. Ray continues to enjoy the men's breakfast & fishing group. I was told the Paradise Gala Holiday Extravagaza was a hugh success. Pierre & Andree were seen at the dance. Wonder how many hundreds of miles they biked over the summer. Our final pot luck for the year will be in the home of Bill & Dorothy with a chili fall theme as well as a white elephant exchange. From all the Suns of Beaches we wish you a very merry Christmas & Happy New Year! .

The Cardboard Boat is slowly but surely being constructed and Bruce and I enjoy being helpers in the process. We went to Dixie Roadhouse and Bocce this month as well. At the Ladies Lunch Patti Powell and I attended, we didn’t win a prize but we enjoyed being at a table with some of our newest members and graduates as well. Some of us found out about Drag Queen Bingo at the Italian/American Center and laughed all night. More of our group will attend at the end of the month. It’s a great excuse to get together and what else: have fun! The highlight of November was clearly the amazing Thanksgiving Dinner at Fred and Nita’s. Marci, Michelle, Margaret, Shirley and Wally, Patti and Wally, Ione and Chuck, Brice and Page and others had a wonderful evening which was also the birthday celebration for Fred. Many thanks!! Shirley and Wally and Bruce and I went on a Manatee Watch and one came right up to the boat! At the December meeting Margaret, Bruce and I learned about the Parks and Rec’s many offerings around town. December’s Sunset Celebration was (again!!) such a beautiful evening and so much fun!! Bruce and I were there, then Fred & Nita came and Michelle as well as many brand new and graduated NRC members. Live music, toes in the sand, good company: perfect! Patti, Page and Margaret played Bunco together and I ran into Bonnie and Craig at the Farmers Market but the highlight of this month was the fabulous Tacky Sweater Christmas potluck party at Linda Greene’s! Bonnie and Craig, Patti and Wally, Nita and Fred, Margaret, Cathy (and their dates), Shirley and Wally, Bruce and I, and other fun friends joined us for a night of laughs, great food and silly gifts in their charming new apartment. Thank you both so much!! A few of us will be attending the epic December dance (can’t wait!) but for all, we wish a lovely time celebrating the season of love and hope. We are grateful to know you!

Paradise Pelicans Reporter: Virena McElheney

Wow, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas here in the Cape. Our

group came together in the heat of the summer and now looking forward to seeing what we can get into during the winter. It looks like there might be more things to do in the winter with Holiday Festival of lights, Holiday-Boat-Along, Night Fishing at the Yacht Club, Cape Bike Night on 47th Terrace, not to mention potlucks and Ladies Luncheon, and the Paradise Gala Holiday Extravaganza dinner dance. Some of us had travel plans to be elsewhere for the holidays and will be missed. The ones staying at home in the Cape will be enjoying all that’s available here. From all the Paradise Pelicans we want to wish everyone in the Cape Coral New Resident Club a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and very Happy Healthy New 2015 Year in paradise!

SEPT 2014 CAPE CORAL ESCAPES Reporter: Diane Kenney

We have been busy, busy, busy! We want to get to know our new friends so we get together! Now

we have official name tags, a directory, our own Facebook page and a signpost to help find our group at meetings. Our signpost gives the mileage from our former hometowns to the Cape (in case we need to go back, hopefully not in the COLD and the SNOW)! We've been showing our happy faces at the NRC's events - general meetings, Ladies Luncheons (always trying to win door prizes), Cocktails on the Cape, dances, bowling, bocce ball... Of course, we have our own gatherings meeting at the Sunset Celebration, Movie Matinees, our own ladies lunch (without door prizes) at The Boat House, a cruise on the Caloosa Queen and finally a visit to Fisherman's Village in Punta Gorda. December was a busy month for the Cape Escapes! Our Pot Luck in December was at Karen and Jim Rozum's, and then another the next weekend at Diane & Herb Kenney's while we watched all the boats in the Christmas Boat Along. Any excuse for a party, and we are ready!

Wow, by the time that you read this it will be 2015. Start-ing a new year in lovely Florida what a blessing. While we have only been members for a short time, we are all taking advantage and enjoying all the great activities of the NRC. Peter, Sandy, Lori, Bob, LuAnne, Mike, Pam, Gordon, Vickie, Sully and Ann attended Cocktails on the Cape at the Tiki Bar.

A group of "Gulls" got together at the Italian American Club to enjoy Drag Queen Bingo--Jill, John, Sandy, Peter, Pam, Gordon, Bob, Lori, LuAnne, Mike, Vickie, Sully and non Gulls Page and Bruce. Nobody got to yell BINGO but had a lot of fun when we got down to one number. We had a really great turn out at the 2 Dec monthly meeting--18 attendees.

Gulls have been seen enjoying the Sunset celebration at the Yacht Club; attending the Festival of Lights and after-wards going out for a wonderful dinner and working on the cardboard boat. We had a big group that attended the Paradise Gala with much laughter and dancing involved. A group of Gulls got together and went to Fisherman's Wharf in Punta Gorda and ate at Harpoon Harrys. We have some Buffalo Bills fans that get together on Sun-days at the Tiki Hut to watch the game. We are looking forward to all the upcoming activities especially the Boat Parade at Rick Wise's which will be our potluck dinner for the month.

I want to say a big thank you to my wonderful husband Sully for keeping the home fires burning while I enjoyed a 7 day cruise with some girlfriends from Texas. We hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and have a very blessed New Year. We are looking forward to many more great times with the NRC

FLAMINGOS GONE WILD Reporter: Karen Corlett

Trivia did not bring us home the trophy, but as luck would have

it we won plates of wings several times, think that was the better of the deal. As we sat across from family and friends at Thanks-giving we gave thanks for the food before us, friends and family beside us and the love between us, and that we were able to wade in our pools and not in 5 ft. of snow. It is a good day !!!! We look forward to Christmas, New Years, and of course Black Friday. Decembers Event was held and Joe and Karen's new home, last of the "snow birds" to become "Pelicans". Joe our self proclaimed chef out did himself ,home made corn chowder and pulled pork. Just when we thought we would not eat again until tomorrow "Pastry Chef" Joe dazzled us again. Then what to are wondering ears should we hear, Joe tickling the ivory's for us, what a great nite. We thought if we looked out the window the Jolly Ole Man would be heard saying Merry Christmas to all and to all a Good Night. Kinda even hoped for a little snow. We do hope Santa jotted Joe & Karen's new address down don't want those gifts going to someone else. We wait for Santa's helpers to return safe and sound so we can reunite and celebrate Christmas and New Years

This is Ida and Al Rubio. They graduated from

the NRC in September 2014.

“ It’s 5 o'clock Somewhere”

They got married November 29, 2014, they

were very active members and always in

attendance at the dinner dance.

Congratulations to a Wonderful couple.

NRC MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENTNRC MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

JANUARY 2015

Kathy O’Boyle

President, Board 95

Welcome to the New Resident Club of Cape Coral and 2015!

I cannot believe it is January. Where did 2014 go? I guess it is true - time flies when you are

having fun!!! Looking back on the last twelve months, I am grateful for the new friends I

have made and all the hard work and dedication of the Board members who have given so

much of their time and talents to make our club so special! My thanks goes out to all of the

membership for making the experience of being an NRC member so rewarding. It takes

each and everyone of your smiling faces and support to make our goal a success - to pro-

vide the opportunity to meet new people and life long "new" best friends.

Now we move on to 2015. I hope you are ready! In addition to getting to as many events as

possible, I encourage all of you to volunteer to assist with some of the fun activities we

have planned for you this year. It is an excellent opportunity to meet more people and give

back to the club. It is also a good way to get your feet wet for a future board position. Our

terms are only for 6 months and soon we will be looking for nominees to replace our cur-

rent board members.

Let's make 2015 a year none of us will ever forget! Let's have even more fun!

Warm and Sunny Regards,

Kathy
