The Clinical Documentation Improvement team recently attended the Nuance annual user group meeting in Chicago. Angela Craft submitted a summary of our Clinical Documentation Improvement program results since 2013. Based on the results, SCR was recognized with a Customer Impact Award! The team has worked very hard to achieve these results.
Some of the highlights include:
• Average Case Mix Index of 1.60 in FY 2016, coming from a baseline of 1.32 in 2013. This results in a financial impact of $1.1M. Our CMI now reflects the appropriate level of severity of illness and risk of mortality.
• Physician response rate to clarifications is 100%. This shows the medical staff continue to support the program.
• We maintain necessary communications with patient caregivers from the point of entry through the billing process.
• We continue to educate the entire team on new strategies and opportunities.

Timothy Duane Brammell, MD, Hospitalist St. Claire Regional is proud to announce the addition of Timothy Duane Brammell, MD, internal medicine physician.
Brammell received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky and his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of Louisville affiliated hospitals. Prior to joining St. Claire Regional, Brammell worked in internal medicine for 29 years, most recently at Lexington Clinic, PSC, as a hospitalist.
Brammell says while he was growing up in Eastern Kentucky, the challenges of regional healthcare that surrounded him sparked his interest in the medical field.
“After practicing as a hospitalist in Central Kentucky throughout most of my career, I decided I wanted to return to the region I grew up in that inspired me to become a physician.”
Brammell and his wife, Deborah, have many wonderful grandchildren who occupy most of their spare time. When he isn’t spending time with them, he enjoys gardening.
Stacy Bond, APRN, Family Medicine - Olive Hill St. Claire Regional is proud to announce the addition of Stacy D. Bond, APRN, to our medical staff. Bond is now seeing and accepting new patients at St. Claire Regional Family Medicine in Olive Hill.
Bond received her Associate of Science and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Morehead State University and her Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Prior to becoming a family nurse practitioner, she worked at SCR as an RN for 15 years. For the past three years, Bond has been a practicing APRN at Blevins Medical Group in Ashland, Kentucky.
Bond has lived in Olive Hill her entire life and says she is excited to return to SCR and join our family medicine location in Olive Hill.
“I am happy to be serving the patients in this area. I want to help the people of Eastern Kentucky lead healthier lifestyles to make the future better for my children and yours.”
Bond and her husband, C.E., have two wonderful children, a 14 year-old son, Cole, and a 12 year-old daughter, Lexi. In her spare time, she enjoys attending church, watching her children play sports and jogging.

Dress Code Changes will Benefit Patients
& their Families
We are excited to announce that hospital-based RNs will be moving forward with plans to establish a more professional nursing image that will also help our patients and their families better identify the nursing staff.
Beginning during National Nurses Week May 6-12, clinical nurses have selected to wear steel gray (pewter) scrubs.
With this change we hope to promote ownership of our profession as we continue to proudly serve our patients.
In addition, the Respiratory Therapy Department will identify themselves by wearing navy scrubs.

OneNSt. Claire Regional and UK HealthCare’s fifth annual One Night: About You women’s health conference was its best yet! One Night: About You, held Thursday, April 27, at the Morehead Conference Center, attracted its largest audience yet, with nearly 350 women in attendance.
The evening kicked off with free health screenings and informational booths, followed by an inspirational keynote presentation by Kimberly Williams, M.D., retired SCR physician, titled “Dystress or Serenity: What’s Really Eating You?” Williams talked about how cultivating gratitude reduces stress and increases optimism.
SCR and UK HealthCare providers presented on a variety of topics including osteoporosis; menopause; what’s new in women’s health; and the keys to a healthy heart. Attendees also had the opportunity to learn core exercises to help with pelvic health, posture and more.
More than $2,400 in door prizes were given away during the evening, including a variety of gift cards, gift baskets and a Michael Kors handbag. Donors included St. Claire Regional, UK HealthCare, PHI, Dillard’s, Goody’s, Reno’s, iStyle, licensed massage therapist Melodie Hoff, All Seasons, Cracker Barrel, Caskey’s Jewelry, Commonwealth Chiropractic, Made for the Journey Outfitters, Atkinson’s Florist, Morehead Cinemas, McAllister Outfitters and Salon and Day Spa.

SCR Helps
at Relay for Life - Rowan County
SCR joined other teams across the county in raising money and awareness to fight for the cure for cancer at the annual Rowan County Relay for Life event on April 28.
In addition to being the presenting sponsor of this year’s event, SCR raised more than $1,000 to donate to the cause through a variety of fun activities. The theme for this year’s relay was “Knock Cancer off the Board,” prompting participating teams to choose a board game to represent them during the event. SCR’s relay team chose Operation, setting up several Operation board games for event attendees to play. The team also offered free face painting to children, sold cookies, T-shirts and more, while SCR Food Services sold gourmet barbecue dinners and provided free meals to all survivors.
SCR's relay team featured a Dunk-a-Doc booth! Participants could purchase three balls for a dollar for their chance to dunk an SCR physician. The dunking booth was a huge hit at the event, ensuring that our docs remained soaked throughout most of the evening!
While the event may be over, you can still help! SCR team T-shirts continue to be sold in an effort to raise additional money for cancer research. Quantities are limited. If you would like to support the cause by making a donation or purchasing a shirt, email [email protected].
A big THANK YOU to everyone who participated in this year’s event!
