Based on the reliable Pleuger three-phase, AC, submersible, squirrel-cage induction motor, the new Pleuger PMM6 has a number of advantages over asynchronous designs, including higher efficiency at full and partial loads, lower thermal losses and a robust, large air gap configuration. The result is a permanent magnet, electric submersible motor that reduces energy costs by up to 10% and boosts power output by nearly 50% while extending the overall life of the motor. It is currently available in a 150 mm (6 in) motor size with power output of 5 kW (7 hp) to 45 kW (60 hp). Flowserve intends to release additional sizes in the near future. Field tested extensively in Germany, Flowserve says that the Pleuger PMM6 motor technology has demonstrated up to a 10% increase in efficiency when compared with current asynchronous motor designs. www.flowserve.com Grundfos is a key partner in a Danish project to extract phosphorus from wastewater, contributing highly specialised components for phosphorus extraction in the form of dosing pumps, booster systems and control systems for the wastewater plant. Aarhus Water has been working on removing phosphorus from wastewater since 2011. The scarce element has the unfortunate side-effect of forming deposits in pipes and causing blockages. “We are interested in seeing how our solutions can play a role in the project,” said Per Krøyer Kristensen, business development manager at Grundfos. “We already have these technologies, so what we are looking at is a different way of applying them.
