GE’s new ClearCurrent PRO gas turbine inlet filter cartridge has been field tested and shown to positively affect gas turbine performance while helping to reduce the effects of turbine degradation. “The integration of GE’s air filtration and heavy duty gas turbine technologies has enabled an unprecedented level of performance over the life of the power plant,” said Keith White, general manager of GE’s Air Filtration business. The GE Air Filtration team has monitored the performance of ClearCurrent PRO over the last few years at a number of installations worldwide, including both coastal and inland sites. The team found that inlet systems installed with ClearCurrent PRO offered improved output, lower heat rates and overall turbine efficiency compared with earlier technologies. “Degradation-based maintenance is very important to turbine operators,” said Paul Sennett, product line leader for gas turbine inlet systems at GE. “Our PRO technology can help reduce that degradation and make it so that the choice of inlet filters has a direct correlation to turbine performance.”

www.ge.comSartorius Stedim Biotech has launched the Sartoguard NF prefilter series, completing its range of Sartoguard prefilters. The new Sartorius prefilters feature a combination of high performance polyethersulfone (PES) membranes and nanofleece technology. Sartorius says that this is the first time that PES nanofleece material is being used for liquid prefiltration applications in biopharmaceutical manufacturing. The newly developed nanofleece technology provides an ultrafine fleece structure based on a small nanofibre diameter of 120-150 nm compared with the fibre diameter of conventional fleece materials of >500 nm. The resulting fleece structure offers enhanced clarification capabilities, even for extremely fine contaminants, along with a high-dirt holding capacity, fast flow rates and high total throughput performance. Sartoguard NF prefilters are suitable for downstream protection of more expensive sterilising-grade and Mycoplasma-retentive filters in challenging prefiltration applications for biopharmaceutical manufacturing. In combination with their high total throughput performance, Sartoguard NF prefilters offer significant cost-saving potential due to their ultrafine

retention performance, which ensures removal even of extremely small particulate-based contaminants. All active filter materials – membranes and nanofleece – of the new prefilter series are made of polyethersulfone, ensuring a minimum extractable footprint. This enables users to easily implement Sartoguard NF into existing filtration processes using final filters already based on PES.

www.sartorius.comEnvirogen Technologies Inc’s EnviroHPA service program is a high-performance, cost-effective alternative to activated carbon systems in hydrocarbon and chemical processing industries. The EnviroHPA systems feature a range of ultra-high performing adsorbent media in systems designed, guaranteed and operated by Envirogen under multi-year agreements. Envirogen offers EnviroHPA Systems as a service, with system design and installation, media costs, regeneration and disposal charged as an operating fee over the life of the system. They can be offered with low- to no-capital investment, guaranteed performance and predictable costs over the service life of the installation. Savings with EnviroHPA systems can approach 50% compared with traditional activated carbon systems in high volume applications. An additional benefit of an EnviroHPA system is the smaller carbon footprint of this approach compared with activated carbon systems. Initial applications for EnviroHPA systems will be in the hydrocarbon processing and chemical processing industries for removal and recovery of select organics from wastewater, groundwater and vapor phase streams. “Activated carbon has been an excellent tool in environmental treatment for decades for its low cost and adaptability into different applications. However, advances in material science have given us a whole new range of adsorbing media, which when expertly applied, have incredible performance characteristics and offer significant improvements in both treatment efficiency and cost performance. With EnviroHPA Systems, we can achieve both,” said Robert Stark, Envirogen vice president, Southern Region. Envirogen expects to have similar offerings for potable groundwater treatment, municipal wastewater treatment and other applications in the near future.
