For those of you who haven’t found the “Love Finds You” series of romance books, you are in for a delightful

treat! If you walk over to the “L shelf” in the fiction section you’ll find a whole shelf of these romantic stories.

They have a variety of plots, themes and settings. Each story is set in a unique location which adds depth and

interest to the plot. There are a lot of states to choose books from. For example, you could check out Love

Finds You: Poetry, Texas and you’d find a story about a town of hard-working men in need of wives or if you

were born in Iowa like I was, you’d check out Love Finds You: Amana, Iowa. This story is set in 1863 during

the Civil War. No matter which of these books you choose, you’ll find romance, history, and pleasure. Come

    in and try one!

While you’re checking out books for yourself, don’t forget to pick a “read-aloud” one to share with your whole family. It can become one of the most special times of your day. if you spend 15-20 minutes reading aloud a pleasure book to them. Some all-time favorite books for family read-aloud include: James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl, The Chocolate Touch by Patrick Catling, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis, Misty of Chincoteague by Marguerite Henry, and Charlottes’ Web by E.B. White. If you have never read aloud we have a book called How to Read a Story which will give you tips on how to become a master at it! Ask our librarians for other suggestions.

Books are wonderful gifts for your “little ones” for any time of the year. It is never too early to start your child

on the path to becoming a reader. Babies and toddlers need sturdy, “chunky” books that they can easily hold.

These “board books” can be chewed on as well as held and read. Look for bold, colorful illustrations or

photographs with simple or no text. Select books that contain familiar objects, animals or other babies. Also,

look for books that repeat, rhyme or have rhythm.

Preschoolers enjoy books with large colorful illustrations as well as small detailed drawings. Look for books

that invite interaction like I Spy, counting, ABC’s, or wordless books.

Grades K to 2 also enjoy picture books. Make sure to include fantasy and fairytale books. Animal stories and

poetry which feature rhyme and repetition are also fun. Don’t forget the “Easy Readers” and the beginning

chapter books (like Magic Tree House) as their reading skills are growing.

Grades 3 to 5- Take cues from your child’s interests, but don’t forget about nonfiction. Guide them toward

fiction books they can emotionally identify with or those with humorous or absurd pictures. Children this age

often love “series” books from one author which focus on a special character.

Come into your Liberty Library and let us give you additional book ideas such as book lights, bookmarks, etc.
