■ NICE has published new quality-of-care andclinical guidance standards, based on adult patientexperience, for the NHS on 24 February 2012. Therecommendations aim to ensure that "patients have anexcellent experience of care from the NHS".Programme Director of the Centre for Clinical Practiceat NICE, Christine Carson, says that understanding andimproving patient experience of NHS services is"essential to providing a service based on patients’needs". The Chief Executive and General Secretary ofthe RCN*, Dr Peter Carter, adds that the RCNwelcomes the publication of the newrecommendations, as they are "important and practicalsteps forward" in ensuring that "the NHS takes properaccount of patients’ experiences in care".
