HUMAN & SPIRITUAL VALUES Chair: Vicky Rowe

The committee should implement projects that support spiritual development, provide human companionship and comfort, or offer guidance and counseling. Projects can encourage interfaith and interdenominational religious activity, but should not support a specific religious sect. Projects may include prayer breakfasts, inspirational or spiritual moments or reflections, visits to nursing homes and support of grief counseling.

The committee should strive to increase membership according to the standards provided by the by-laws. The committee should develop plans for an active membership recruitment campaign and help in the education and retention of members. The committee should also develop an effective orientation and induction ceremony for new members and promote regular attendance by all club members at club meeting.

The committee is responsible for providing support and activities involving the military and their families. YOUNG CHILDREN PRIORITY ONE Chair: Ruth Ann Rettie

The committee should implement projects for children, prenatal through age five. Projects can address maternal and child health, childcare, early development, nutrition, parenting education and support, advocacy, pediatric trauma or safety. Popular projects include encouraging literacy, assisting childcare and preschool programs, distributing home-safety checklists, bicycle safety programs and assisting with immunizations.

Conventions

The Annual Kiwanis International Convention is an excellent event, which allows clubs from around the world to exchange ideas, participate in forums, and share fellowship.

The District Convention is the kickoff for the new Kiwanis year, which runs from October to September. Club officers and interested members attend.

The District Mid-Year Conference gives members an opportunity to attend classes and forums about club operation and other exciting topics.

• Awarded the Salvation Army Bell for collecting the most money during the kettle campaign for the past 10 years vs. the Rotary Club.

• The Hixson Award is named in honor of George F. Hixson, the first Kiwanis International President. A $1,000 contribution is made on behalf of the award recipients.

• The Kiwanian of the Year Award is presented to honor a member for outstanding service to the club each year.
