Sustainable Development Program MissionMission: Design, construct and operate the leading environmentally sustainable and responsible stadium in professional sports. Integrate principles of environmental stewardship into every day business decisions and
practices to drive bottom line results. Collaborate with our corporate sponsors to promote the most innovative and comprehensive green initiatives in the sports industry that will have the maximum impact on our fan base
and demonstrate corporate responsibility in our community.
Industry Leadership and Innovation Through Partnerships
EPA and Sponsors: Design Builder, Waste Hauler, Concessionaire, Beverage Vendor
Protect and preserve the environmentally sensitive wetlands and wildlife habitat that surround the new stadium – 20,000 protected acres
Reduce and recycle solid waste
• Use natural resources efficiently in the ongoing operation of the new stadium to minimize our impact by conserving water and managing energy wisely
Encourage mass transit and car pooling
Enhance brands through community and fan‐based involvement in green promotions, marketing campaigns, and outreach

Bottom‐line: Environmental Stewardship Campaign Drives Business Results
• Sustainability Goals
– Wetlands and Wildlife Protection• Construct the new stadium on 75 acre brownfields site with no impact on
surrounding undeveloped or environmentally sensitive lands
– Recycling Programs – Join EPA Waste Wise Program• Participate in National Clean Diesel Campaign and Clean Construction USA
(use of ultra low sulfur diesel fuel, diesel particulate filters, etc.)• Recycle 80% of the total waste generated during construction (almost 5,000
tons). Reuse almost 30,000 tons of salvaged rebar, and steel in the new structure. All 8000 piles from petrochemical steel scrap and salvage.
• Reduce solid waste production by at least 25% during Operating Phase• Opportunity ‐ 70 tons of waste generated each NFL game – stadium and lots
– Little or no recycling on site currently• Separate and bail all corrugated paper products on site• Use of compostable serving items in concessions. Sorting concessionaire’s
waste streams into recyclable, compostable, and non‐recyclable• All compostable items will be sent to compost facility in Woodbridge, NJ
• Sustainable Development Program Goals & Achievements
Think Green®
– Water Conservation and Energy Management• Reduce water demand in the new stadium by at least 25%, or 11,000,000 gallons per year with waterless urinals, synthetic turf, local plantings, granite stone dust in medians
• Reduce energy usage in the new stadium by 30%• Join Energy Star Program
– Fan and Community Partnerships• Buy 70% of the total project construction costs locally to spur the tri‐state economy and reduce carbon footprint; aggregating to over $680M in benefit to community
• 83% of contractors during construction are from NY, NJ, and PA marketplace; 100% of workforce is local
• Foster use of mass transit rail link and car pooling– Approximately 3,500 cars off the roads on gameday
• Promote fan and community participation with promotional events, outreach, and education

*Protect, Reduce, Recycle, Promote*
Stormwater is collected, settled and used to recharge the groundwater and landscaping needs
All plantings are native species, low waterplantings with high efficiency irrigation, saving 700,000 gallons of water.
Re‐Use of porous material from industrial sources reduces
watering needs – 188,000 sq ftof decomposed granite,
equal to 4.5 acres or 4 football fields
Over 8,000 foundation pilings, totaling 16,000 tons of steel obtained from petrochemical
industry casings
Exterior façade fins include 40 tons of recycled aluminum
Over 2,000 tons of coal combustion products used in place of Portland Cement
Saving 1,600 tons of CO2 emissions
Stadium rebar made from recycled steel – 22,000 tons
of scrap
•• Use of Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel in Construction Use of Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel in Construction EquipmentEquipment
•• Use of Diesel Particulate Filters on Heavy EquipmentUse of Diesel Particulate Filters on Heavy Equipment
82% of total waste generated during construction is recycled
.
The NY Giants/Jets will be using waterless urinals in the new stadium saving
2.7 MG/YR.
Water saving toilets, showerheads and faucets will also be
installed.
• By Joining the ENERGY STAR Program, the New Meadowlands Stadium will be Saving Energy and Precious Natural Resources
Goal: 30% Energy Reduction
×
New mass transit rail station expected to reduce 3,500 cars per game
and eliminate 5.6 million miles of car travel per year
The Use Of Solar Power is Planned for the New Meadowlands Stadium and Purchase of Alternative
Energy Sources in Competitive Marketplace
