KINDNESS WEEK
The Kindness Week was celebrated at LPS from 9th to
13th February 2015. The week long activities included
Day of Compliments, Random Acts of Kindness, Being
Kind to Our Environment, Sharing Is Caring and Respect.
A DONATION OF 190 PENCIL BOXES WAS MADE TO
HOPE, SCHOOL FOR THE UNDER PRIVILEGED.
I had great fun during the kindness week. Many interesting
activities had been planned for us throughout the week; we
learnt to be kind and generous to each other. LPS collected a
sum of Rs 58,170 with which the school bought gift hampers
for the domestic staff. It was our way of saying thank you to
them for their hard work and appreciating their efforts.
Stationery containing pencils, erasers and colour pencils
were also collected and donated to an under privileged
school. The activity I enjoyed the most was passing a heart
shaped pillow and complimenting each other.

VALENTINE’S DAY CELEBRATIONS
CHINESE NEW YEAR
Wishing everyone a very happy
Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year is celebrated from the 19th of
February till the 5th of March. The New Year marks the
first day of the first month of the Chinese Lunar
calendar. Its date from January
to February varies from each
year.
We decorate tassels on the
New Year. I received money in
a red envelope. This year is
the year of the Goat. Big red
lanterns were hanging on the
wall. We do not eat meat on
the Chinese New Year;
however, we can eat seafood
and drink juice.

Love along with the aroma of freshly baked cookies filled
the air. The hallway was beautifully decorated and the
children wore red and pink pertaining to the theme, as
LPS celebrated Valentine’s Day.
THEY BAKED HEART SHAPED COOKIES AND
WROTE CARDS TO CONVEY THEIR FEELINGS
TO THEIR PARENTS.
NAVROZE
Literally means ‘New Day’ marks the first day of spring
and the beginning of the year in the Iranian Calendar. It
is celebrated every year on the 21st of March.
The celebrations of Navroze last for twelve days, visiting
relatives and friends are part of it. The traditional table
setting includes seven specific items beginning with the
letter ’S’, known as HAFT SHEEN.
They signify life, health, wealth,
abundance, love, patience and
purity.
Seven items of the Haft Sheen
are:
Sharbat (drink), Shaker (sugar),
Shir (milk), Shireh (syrup), Shahd
(honey), Shirini (candy), Shahshir
(sword) and Samaq (berries).
Some Navroze celebrants believe what a person does on
Navroze effects the rest of the year. So if one is warm
and kind, the year ahead will be good and if not then it
might be bad.
SPORTS DAY
Our Annual Junior Sports Day was held on the 28th of
February 2015. Students from Pre Nursery till Class 2
participated. The event consisted of 21 races altogether
which included flat, novelty, teachers, and parents race,

class 2. All the participants showed good sportsman-
ship and cheered for their houses.

WORLD MATH DAY
From building Mathematical concepts to problem
solving skills, LINKS has it all! World Math Day
competition took place on 12th March 2015.
Competition consisted of 3 Mental Math and 1 activity
round. Math games and activities took place at each
class level throughout the day.
When I was chosen for the World Math Day
Competition, I was ecstatic. Soon I was told I had to go
to Islamabad for a family event. However, I wanted to
stay, as I was the only one who was chosen from my
class on the day of the competition I had butterflies in
my stomach. During the competition I remained
confident and answered a few questions well. Finally,
my house ‘The Yellow Vipers’ won. All the winners got
presents. I got a game called Bingo Lotto. Thank you

Insects, insects all around were the theme of our parent
assembly. I was the narrator and my classmates were
dressed as bees, butterflies, worms, dragonflies, ants,
lady bugs, beetles, birds and garden bugs. We tried to
tell everyone how important insects are. In the
beginning I felt a little shy but I really enjoyed singing
the song in the end.

Supporting the Team Green
In honour of Pakistan Day and to support our national
cricket team students and teachers at LPS wore Cricket
World Cup 2015 t-shirts. The students enjoyed and
cheered for their country as live streaming of the match
was viewed on the LCD, along with regular classes.
This was a good way to instill patriotism in our students.
MAY THE BETTER TEAM WIN!
Activities As the class 1 was learning names of fruits in Urdu and
also writing them, an activity was held in which the
students learnt to make fruit salad.
It was a fun activity in which children learnt names of
different fruits in Urdu, made oral sentences with those
names and later enjoyed the fruit salad.
TUTORIAL
Class 1-P
We were learning about hygiene in our tutor class so
we decided to have an assembly presentation on the
same topic. The first time we practised we didn’t do so
well, but then we got better and better.
The story for the presentation was about a boy called
Peter, who did not like being clean. One night he had a
dream that a tooth paste and a pair of socks were
talking, about hygiene. The message behind the
presentation was that, if we do not maintain hygiene,
we will fall sick.

URDU ELOCUTION When the selections began for the Urdu Elocution, I
worked hard to be selected. Finally I along with another
girl from my class got selected. Friday 17th April was the
Contest. I was very nervous that I will make a mistake,
but I did quite well. The name of my poem was ‘Pani’. I
was not the winner but, that did not matter to me as
long as I worked hard. I had never been selected for a
contest like this. My mother was happy for me. I liked
Rumaisa’s poem ‘Chirya Ghar Ki Sair’. She read it out
very nicely and came first. I will try harder next time.
