MARCH 2014 www.newlifeunitedmethodist.com New Life United Methodist Church 6584 W. Howard City-Edmore Rd. Six Lakes, MI. 48886 NEW L FE NEWS Dear Friends, Last month I asked you to join in prayer with the Leadership and VCI Teams as we met during our Retreat at The Shack. It was a wonderful time of reflection, sharing our hopes and dreams for New Life UMC, and setting goals for us as a church that we hope to accomplished this year. We set three goals for this year. All three are to be in place mid-September for our annual Fall Kick-Off. Your prayers, help, ideas, and support will be essential. Yes, you are needed, and a critical part of accomplishing the goals we have prayerfully committed to. Here are our three goals for this year: 1. Excellence in Worship. This applies to both services. We will be working toward expanding the solid foundation that is already established in our 9:00am service while looking at how we can “re- launch” and improve the 11:00am service. As we work toward a re-launch of the second service, we will be working with the New Church Development Committee from the Conference while encouraging help from many within New Life. 2. Redesign Wednesday Nights. Our programming on Wednesday evenings is drawing youth and children, but we are struggling to pull in the adults. We are exploring a number of different ideas and would welcome your input as we look to create an opportunity that would be welcoming to people of all ages and situations. 3. Develop An Intentional Spiritual Development Process. We realized at the Retreat that we have nothing in place to purposefully help folks grow in their walk with Jesus Christ. As part of our goal we are looking to have processes in place and ready to implement beginning mid-September of this year. Please be praying about how you would be participating in this exciting journey. There are a multitude of subjects and experiences that will be part of this process including mission trips, classes, local ministries, fellowship, and small groups. In addition, we will be hiring two more staff; a Worship Leader and a Christian Education Director. Both are part-time positions and the job descriptions are available in the office, or on the website. On another note, Ash Wednesday is March 05 and we are planning a short service that evening at 6:30pm. That evening we begin Lent; a journey towards the cross; and ultimately to Easter. Let me invite you to pray about how you could help the church fulfill its goals. Also, pray as well for an ever deepening personal journey of getting to know Jesus better as we move toward Easter. May the Holy Spirit lead you and bless you. Pastor John

Why United Methodist Women GIVE

Mission with women, children adn youth. Our approach tomission is different from many Christian missionorganizations, in that United Methodist Women endeavor toempower women and youth to care for themselves and theirfamilies and to provide leadership that their communities andnations sorely need.

Some grants go directly to specific organizations orprojects. These can include schools, hospitals, agriculturalprojects, youth organizations and more. Other grants go toUnited Methodist and other women's societys, ecumenicalorganizations and grassroot groups. This enables women todecide what projects and work is needed in their countries.

Projects approved for funding through the 2014international and national ministries budget are as follows,which includes 2013 international call to prayer and selfdenial grants.Programs administered by United Methodist WomenNational Mission Institution Network $686,952Mission Institution Property Management

Quite a storyDuring Sunday dinner, a mother asked her sonwhat he'd learned in Sunday school that day."Well," he said, "our teacher told us how God

sent Moses behind enemy lines on a rescuemission to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Whenhe got to the Red Sea, he had his engineersbuild a pontoon bridge and all the people walkedacross safely. Then he used his walkie-talkie toradio headquarters for reinforcements. They sentbombers to blow up the bridge, and all theIsraelites were saved.""Now, is that really what your teacher said?" theboy's mother asked."Well, no," he admitted. "But if I told it the waythe teacher did you'd never believe it!"

In like the SpiritIn many places, March is quite windy: "In likea lion ...!" Though I don't like the damp chillthat's often part of the transition to spring, Ilove windy days. Something about the air'smovement - a gentle breeze or ferocious galeblowing through trees, against the house, in myhair - breeds excitement in me, anticipationthat something new is astir.How fitting that in conversation withNicodemus, Jesus said, "The wind blowswhere it chooses, and you hear the sound of it,but you do not know where it comes from orwhere it goes. So it is with everyone who isborn of the Spirit" (John 3:8, NRSV). LikeNicodemus, we fail to comprehend the Spirit ofGod. But Jesus reminds us that though wecan't see the Spirit, we feel his love, see hisactions of justice and hear his sounds. Theseinclude kind words, bold preaching, weepingfor another, shared laughter and songs ofpraise.

Forgiven

I cannot count the numberof my many wayward steps.Now and then recalledare the numerous regrets.

But I must rememberJesus' blood, covers all.It keeps on, keeping oncleansing, when I fall.

The waterfall of forgivenesscontinuyally cleanses me.His grace erases allmy painful memories.

When it comes to believers, peoplewho walk in the light, "the blood ofJesus Christ, His Son, cleanses usfrom all sin." 1 John 1:9{in the Greek, the tense for the

word "cleanse" denotes a presentand continuous action, which meansthat from the moment you receiveChrist, the blood of Jesus keeps oncleansing you. It is as if you areunder a waterfall of forgiveness.Even when you fail, this waterfallnever stops.}

Next Blood DriveAmerican Red Cross will be here onceagain on Thursday, March 20th, from12pm to 5:45pm. If you are able to andwould like to give blood on that day, youmay sign up on-line. Walk-ins areacceptable, also.
