Chair’s Message

Dear Members, Sponsors and Guests:

It is a great pleasure for me to provide this message to you prior to our first meeting. We all experienced a summer consisting of very hot days and, sometimes, torrential rains, and I sincerely hope that everyone is well.

Many thanks for your support during the 2011-12 Section year. Last year provided some great opportunities for us to begin to build momentum and transition into the upcoming productive 2012-13 Section year.

In addition to informative Technical Presentations, our commit-tees have planned several Educational Seminars during the Season which can prove beneficial to personnel involved in welding, testing and related industries. Please spread word of these among your col-leagues, and plan to attend during the season.

Also, we will consider any initiatives which may assist us in reaching new members and retaining existing members. Please help to recruit new members for the AWS NJ Section; particularly among young people just entering the industry. Make them aware of the benefits that AWS membership offers, invite them to attend the meetings, and encourage their participation. Let us make recruiting and maintaining our membership one of our priorities this season.

I’m looking forward to seeing you at the meetings.

Troubleshooting MIG and TIG EquipmentSpeakers: Bob Petrone, CWI & Tom Fenelon

AGL Welding Supply Co., Inc., Clifton, NJ

You turn the MIG welding machine on in the morning, pull the trig-ger, and find the machine is acting up. Is it something you can fix yourself, or does the machine have to be sent out for repair?

The remote foot pedal on your TIG foot control stopped working. Seems simple enough to troubleshoot, but how do they do it?

I just checked the water level in my cooler/circulator, and found the water turned dark green or brown. Is this normal, or does the water have to be cleaned or replaced?

Bob Petrone and Tom Fenelon are going to discuss a systematic approach to troubleshooting MIG and TIG welding equipment. Through their experience, they will share the thought process behind fixing many of the problems that are common to this equipment. Pre-ventative maintenance procedures will also be discussed.

So, bring your questions and a notepad.

Bob Petrone is a tech sales representative for AGL Welding Sup-ply Co., Inc. in Clifton, NJ. He is a licensed AWS Certified Welding Inspector, and routinely guides fabricators on AWS and ASME weld-ing code compliance and cost effective welding techniques. Bob is known for teaching his welding clients and prospects how to make more money.

Tom Fenelon is the Service Manager at AGL Welding Supply Co., Inc. He has a thorough understanding about how welding equipment works, and is considered by many to be the best in the business.
