RE: Comments Related to a Future Solicitation of 1,100 Megawatts of Offshore Wind Capacity

Dear Secretary Camacho-Welch:

National Wildlife Federation strongly supports your ongoing work to advance responsibly developed

offshore wind power for New Jersey. In that spirit, I am writing to submit the following comments on

behalf of the undersigned 457 members and supporters in New Jersey, all eager to see a robust offshore

wind industry come to fruition, while ensuring that coastal and marine wildlife are protected every step of

the way. The attached list of New Jerseyans signed on to the following statement to the New Jersey Board

of Public Utilities:

I applaud Governor Murphy for his efforts to advance offshore wind power as a critical climate

change solution for New Jersey – signing into law a commitment to developing 3,500 megawatts by

2030, and swiftly initiating the process to procure the first 1,100 megawatts. I encourage the Board of

Public Utilities to establish a long-term offshore wind procurement process that can maximize the

environmental and economic benefits of our abundant resource.

Further, I urge you to ensure that New Jersey's offshore wind industry is one that models responsible

development from the start. Stringent environmental protections required to protect wildlife and

habitat, with specific attention to our most vulnerable endangered species like the North Atlantic right

whale must be in place throughout every stage of development.

New Jersey has an opportunity to lead the nation in responsibly developing offshore wind power, and

now is the time to establish a thoughtful and holistic policy to build an enduring local industry that

prioritizes benefits for New Jersey's workforce and communities while maintaining the highest

standards of environmental protection every step of the way.

Thank you for the opportunity to provide input. We look forward to working with you in the months and

years ahead to realize the incredible clean energy potential of responsibly developed offshore wind power

for New Jersey.
