At this meetings we will give shape to the regional Master Beekeeper Program we are jointly developing, and we look forward to implementing this program in our region and respective states. Your interest and participation will help us shape the Program as it develops, so those of you who are interested, please keep an eye out for additional information and our future plans.

In Memoriam - Dr. Sridhar Polavarapu, Rutgers University Rutgers University entomologist Sridhar Polvarapu, 43, passed away as a result of pancreatic cancer on Friday, May 7, 2004. Sridhar was one of the most respected faculty emmbers in his department as well as the college, the New Jersey agricultural community, and the blueberry and cranberry industries. In addition to serving the blueberry and cranberry growers, Sridhar's work and influence was important to the beekeeping industry in New Jersey, as he was a staunch supporter for maintaining an active honey bee research component in the Rutgers network. He also participated in the NJ Honey Bee Advisory Council and helped represent NJ and Rutgers in the development and founding years of the Mid-Atlantic Apiculture Research and Extension Consortium (MAAREC). Sridhar, born in India, came to Rutgers as an extension specialist in 1994 after completing his Doctorate at the University of New Brunswick in Canada. Sridhar was a tireless researcher, always >> to p;age 4

>>from page 2 looking for new and innovative projects for his blueberry and cranberry insect control program based at the Rutgers Marucci Blueberry/Cranberry Research Center in Chatsworth, NJ. Sridhar's contribution to growers throughout the US can be measured by the number of new insecticides and pheromones registered for blueberries and cranberries in the past few years. Sridhar was very influential in the success of the NJ blueberry and cranberry growers' committment to IPM programs and their significant reduction in the overall use of insecticides in recent years. Sridhar was the recipient of numerous grants from the Cranberry Institutem EPA, USDA and other funding organizations in support of his valuable research efforts. Sridhar will be greatly

missed by all who knew him and worked with him.
