GRADING

A conventional grading scale will be used to grade students in all core classes and professional classes:

100%-98% = Excellent94%-85% = Good84%-75% = Needs Improvement 74% or below = Failing

A student must have an overall grade of 85% or above to successfully complete the certificate program. Any student with an average course grade of 85% or lower at any time during the course will receive a written academic warning. If the student cannot raise their average course grade within 30 days, he/she will be terminated.

Medical transcription professional class grades are based on accuracy. Each assignment given will be corrected and an accuracy grade will be recorded. In the technique of accuracy grading, 84% or lower is a failing grade, as 16% of the transcribed medical information would be inaccurate. In the real-working world a transcriptionist is expected to maintain 97-100% accuracy; any errors could jeopardize the quality of patient care. New Horizon School of Transcription, Inc. understands that students are learning and therefore a lower accuracy is accepted. However, students should learn from all of their mistakes.

PROGRESS REPORTS Progress reports will be issues at the end of each block.

STUDENT RECORDSA hard copy of a student’s work and grades is maintained by New Horizons School of Transcription, Inc. office for 2 years.
