Our New Relationship With WGTS A couple weeks ago, we welcomed guests from radio station WGTS (91.9) and announced the launch of a new partnership.New Hope is now one of only six churches in the Delaware-Maryland-Virginia area to become a partner church of WGTS.

So, what exactly does it all mean? We will host several different station events once (in some cases, twice) annually, including:

• WGTS concerts • PrayerWorks! Live events (an opportunity to pray with and for radio listeners)• WGTS Radio Day, featuring radio Chaplain Terry Johnson (a time when listeners will get to discover our church)• Gateway Experience (an evening worship service designed to reach teens and young adults)

Our partnership will also provide wider support for our local outreach initiatives, with promotion through the radio station and collection sites set up around the tristate area through WGTS' Hands & Feet program.

With a listening audience of 600,000, WGTS is the second-largest noncommercial Christian radio station. Forty percent of station listeners do not attend church. Our hope is that, through this partnership, some of them might find a church home here at New Hope.

A Night of Prayer and Adoration Don't miss an evening of praise and worship, testimonies and prayer here at New Hope next Sabbath starting at 5 p.m.!

Prayer and Adoration Night is an opportunity to approach God’s throne through amazing worship and be inspired by the love of God through music, a short drama, a testimony and other creative avenues. You'll also have the chance to sit privately with God in prayer or experience prayer through prayer stations, prayer partners and small groups.

The Details What: Prayer and Adoration NightWhen: Saturday, Nov. 1, starting at 5 p.m.Where: New Hope Adventist Church

The Black Rock Cliffs are found along the ridge of a mountain range near Mt. Aetna Camp and Retreat Center in Hagerstown, Md. The cliffs overlook the entire Cumberland Valley, and the view is amazing. Autumn is an especially beautiful time, as the golden leaves bathe the valley below. A hiking excursion to Black Rock was one of the activities offered during New Hope’s church camp last weekend. I decided to join the hike.

The walk up to the cliffs was a strenuous, steep climb over loose, slippery rock. Our guide was moving at a fast pace, which made our journey even more difficult. It was a really tough hike, and every few agonizing steps, I would look to see if we were at the summit already. I knew that we would eventually get to the top. I knew that the view would be spectacular, making the effort completely worth it. And I knew that I would somehow make it. But the journey between the trailhead and summit would involve struggle and exhaustion and require determination and motivation.

When God calls us to go from where we are to where He wants us to be, it sometimes requires us to take a journey in faith. This faith journey may involve obstacles and difficulties that challenge and push us to the limit. It may be fraught with twists and turns and steep inclines that make it very uncomfortable for us. It may hurt and require more courage and audacity than we can imagine possessing; it may be just too crazy to consider.

God commanded Abram to leave his home. God’s command was essentially to “sell everything you can’t carry, leave your friends and extended family, bring your wife and

belongings only. You will leave this place, your hometown and never come back again. I’m not going to tell you too much about where you are going, but don’t worry about that — just start walking, and I’ll show you where to go. So, go.”

It took more trust than I can imagine for Abram to leave his home and everything familiar and set out for an unknown destination — with nothing but God’s command to go on! Besides, Abram was 75 years old!

The journey between the trailhead and summit certainly contained much struggle and difficulty for Abram and his family. But what helped Abram on his way was a trusting relationship with God and the promises of blessing that would benefit not only his household but “all the peoples on earth.” Abram trusted God when he wasn’t totally sure what God’s plans were, trusting God would reveal each step. And God did.

Do you trust God when things seem uncertain? Do you trust Him when what He is asking of you seems so crazy? Are you willing to take that first step without knowing what the others steps will be?

“Place your trust in the Eternal; rely on Him completely; never depend upon your own ideas and inventions. Give Him the credit for everything you accomplish, and He will smooth out and straighten the road that lies ahead” (Proverbs 3:5-6, The Voice).
