Kingdom Kids Sabbath School and Kids Church kicks off a new lesson series today titled “The Kings of Israel.” Children will discover attributes of God through stories from the Old Testament. Come see children’s Sabbath School classes turned into a king’s castle and Kids Church children go back in time with David and Solomon. Today, kids will learn we can rely on God. The Bible story is found in 2 Samuel 5:1-5; Psalm 37, David Becomes King.

The new Parents/Mothers room, located upstairs overlooking the worship center, is the perfect place to feed or change your little ones — or just let them crawl — without missing the sermon (thanks to a flat-screen TV!).

Sports on Sunday Is Back!

The fall soccer session of Sports on Sunday, New Hope’s athletic program for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade, begins September15!

This is the fourth season for the popular co-ed league, which has grown from about 30 participants in its first session to nearly 90 kids this spring. Raj Pillai and Ted Unikumaran started the league last summer and run the Sunday morning practices with the help of several parent volunteers.

Beyond teaching the rudiments of soccer and improving the kids’ skills on the field, the league aims to show them how to strike the balance between being competitive and displaying sportsmanship — all while having fun.

Find out more about this program — and sign up your kids — at sportsonsunday.org.

When: Sundays, 9-10:30 a.m., Sept. 15-Nov. 10 (no class Oct. 20)

Registration deadline: Sept. 9

Happily Ever After: More to ComeToday’s sermon kicks off a series on myths surrounding marriage — and how couples can overcome common challenges, keep their relationship healthy and strong and discover their own “happily ever after.” Don’t miss these upcoming messages, co-preached by our pastors with their spouses:

Sept. 14: Remodeling Your Marriage (Pastor Mike and Lorie Speegle)Marriages can become boring, outdated and worn, and can need some extensive remodeling. Where can we find a compelling remodeling plan for marriage? The Bible tells us about a bridegroom who models all of the characteristics required for a healthy marriage — and how to experience restoration and renewal.

Sept. 21: Not Your Parent’s Marriage (Pastor Ann Roda and Jose Hernandez)The expectations of what a marriage should (or shouldn’t) look like are often formed by what we saw in our parents’ marriage: how we deal with conflict, the words we use, the amount of time we give to nurturing the relationship, even our commitment to marriage itself. Our past can have a huge impact (good and bad) on our marriage, yet we’re not bound to relive it.

Sept. 28: Staying in Love (Pastor Dave and Eileen Gemmell)We live in a culture that is preoccupied with the idea of falling in love. Everyone longs to fall in love. Songs and are written about it, movies are made about it. Falling in love is the easy part. Staying in love is trickier.

God’s Daily WordUse the following passages to explore more biblical perspectives on relying on God.

SUNDAY Psalm 37:5-6

MONDAY Psalm 37:18

TUESDAY Psalm 37:23-24

WEDNESDAY Psalm 37:30-31

THURSDAY Psalm 37:39

FRIDAY Psalm 37:4

She walked onto the beach at Key West looking dazed and sunburned. Her lips were swollen twice their size, and the skin on her hands was loose and rutted. Fifty-three hours before, Diane Nyad had jumped off a pier in Havana, Cuba, and became the first person to swim the 110 miles of the Florida straits without a shark cage.

She had attempted this swim four times in the past. Her first was in 1978, then three times between 2011 and 2012. Each time, her efforts were cut short due to electrical storms, strong currents and jellyfish stings that caused her face to swell so much she was unable to see. But this time, she was ready, wearing a full bodysuit, gloves and a special silicone mask at night when jellyfish swam on the surface of the water.

Two miles from the Florida shore, she stopped and called her team, riding in boats and kayaks, to surround her. While treading water, she said to them, “I am about to swim my last two miles in the ocean. This is a lifelong dream of mine, and I'm very, very glad to be with you. Some on the team are the most intimate friends of my life….You're a special group. You pulled me through….Thank you, all of you, thank you for your generosity.”

Nyad said her team was the key to her success: “It looks like a solitary sport, but it’s

a team.” Her team consisted of experts on jellyfish, divers who looked out for sharks, doctors and nutritionists who made sure she was properly hydrated and nourished and navigators who kept her on course. “The mental concentration of 53 hours of nonstop swimming is something to behold and respect. The physical duress is something to behold as well but never, ever, ever, could I do this without this team here,” she said at a news conference. “All I needed to do was to focus on swimming. I completely relied on them for everything else.”

When was the last time you completely relied on God? Sometimes our successes are just beyond our grasp because we rely on our own abilities rather than on God. He wants to be our support team not only in times of stress and distress but also in our everyday life. He wants to provide us with strength, protection and hope. When are you going to let Him? When are you going to completely rely on God for everything?
