Rebuilding: Spring Session !Rebuilding, a support group that aims to help people recover from broken love relationships — whether involving a marriage, engagement or dating — will start a new round of meetings Jan. 28.

The confidential sessions, which run through May 6, will take place Tuesdays at Layhill Community Church in Silver Spring, Md. They follow the book Rebuilding When Your Relationship Ends by Bruce Fisher and Robert Albert, a pastor and Christian counselor. Though biblical principles are woven throughout the text, it is written for a broad audience and not limited to any specific faith, gender, age or relationship status or length.!“It’s not just for divorced people,” said M. Lisa Hughes, who attends New Hope and has co-led previous classes with Pat McDonald, a facilitator for 13 years. Some sign up because they feel stuck and nervous about entering another relationship,she added.!The sessions serve to help individuals overcome whatever painful emotions still linger from a relationship, regardless of when it ended. The group assists participants in recovering from the pain and confusion of a broken relationship, learn about themselves,

find out what went wrong and grow to make better choices in the future.!“It is a process,” McDonald said. “It’s kind of like growing in Christ: You don’t just make all of those changes overnight because it’s old habits and opinions that die hard, and getting people to focus on what matters in a relationship.”!McDonald encourages people to reach beyond church walls — think coworkers or neighbors struggling with divorce — and consider who they know who might need help.!“I know that this makes a difference in people’s lives,” she said. “It works. !The Back Page follows the Bible lessons that children and youth are studying and serves to help kids and adults continue the spiritual discussion at home and establish patterns of a devotional life.

Garrison Keillor is an author, humorist and radio personality. I listen to his show, “A Prairie Home Companion,” every weekend. Every Memorial Day weekend, the show comes to Virginia’s Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, and we are there on the lawn with our picnic basket, rain or shine. I subscribe to his podcast, “The Writer's Almanac,” buy all his books and read most of the poets and authors he recommends. He is an excellent storyteller, and I am especially drawn to his stories from the fictional town of Lake Wobegon, Minn.

I am not alone. Each week, 5 to 6 million people follow Keillor on the radio, via podcast, e-newsletter or social network platforms.

A few years ago, I was at Borders Books to buy his latest book. Standing in front of the Garrison Keillor section was a group of people talking about the recent “Prairie Home Companion” show at Wolf Trap. Like me, everyone in the group had attended the show. This made it easy for me to join the lively conversation. After sharing recollections of the show, the discussion turned to why we were all fans and avid followers of Keillor.

An older woman loved how he could be funny without all the crude references and cursing. Another was attached to all the characters in the Lake Wobegon stories. A young man in his 20s said his parents were fans. He had no choice but to listen to the show as the family drove to his grandmother’s house for lunch every Sunday. Eventually, he too became a

faithful Keillor fan. Another person just loved listening to the radio versus watching television.

I am a fan because of the storytelling that just captures my imagination. Each of us was a follower of Keillor for reasons that were as unique as we were — young, old, shy, literary geek, foreigner and story lover. As we parted ways, we marveled at how one individual could appeal to such a vastly different group of people.

As followers of Jesus Christ, we each have a unique relationship with Him. We follow Him for different reasons. Some will discover Jesus as their shepherd. Those who are tired and weary find Jesus to be their rest. Those who mourn find comfort in Him. Those who need healing find Jesus to be their great physician. All of us come to Jesus with different needs, wants and desires. Jesus met people at the point of their deepest need and ministered to them as individuals. Having needs is part of being human, and those needs are best met in a relationship with Christ.
